Vanda Miss Joaquim

Good morning Folks ~ I’ve just had that wonderful first sip of coffee, aaahhh. After reading comments from my last blog post, I did a little Goggle search on my Vanda orchid, and decided to make a post.

I call it ‘wild’ because it just grows out in the yard, climbing skyward as it clings to shrubs or anything in its path, and needs no care.  I don’t even know where I got this, it’s been around here many, many years.

Actually it isn’t wild at all.  From the pictures and descriptions at Tropical Exotica, it looks like Vanda Miss Joaquim “Agnes”. There are several different ones, but this seems to be the closest to what I have.

More info here from Wikipedia. Here is the first bit from Wikipedia ~ Vanda Miss Joaquim (Chinese: 卓锦万黛兰; pinyin: zhuójǐn wàndàilán), a hybrid orchid cultivar, is Singapore's national flower.[1] Ashkhen Hovakimian(Armenian: Ագնես Ջոաքիմ (Աշխեն Հովակիմյան)), or in English, Agnes Joaquim, found Vanda Miss Joaquim, a natural hybrid, which is also known as the Singapore orchid and the Princess Aloha orchid in a clump of bamboo.

I love the simple beauty and colors of this orchid.

Here are some pics from the ones in my gardens.

It is breezy here this morning, and we’re supposed to have thunderstorms during the next few days.  I’ll be going to work today through Sat. and hope it’s not storming when I have to drive.

Wishing all of you a good weekend whatever you do.

Those Orchids are beautiful. Would love to be able to have a few myself. We got hammered middle of the night with rain, first in about 6 weeks and knocked out my power for almost 4 hours. Hope you get a nice pour like we had though. Sure we'll all get some after effects of the hurricane.

These are gorgeous! The petals have something of the sweet pea about them... the way they fold and curve so delicately. I've learned something new today, thanks :-)
