But, that is not my happy surprise. I went out to handwater this morning, and my surprise was seeing tiny new growth at the bottom of my dead looking stick of what was once a glorious brug. We had a bad drought for a couple of years and that was almost it's demise. I had to dig up the pot from where it was, and decided to just water it and see what happens. I was about to give up and am so glad I didn't. Losing plants is such an awful disappointment. I plan to baby this and hopefully get it back to it's former glory. It's a beauty when in bloom.
Here is what I've been watering.
Here's what made me happy to see this morning.
The pictures below are how it looked in 2006.

"Growth is a greater mystery than death.
All of us can understand failure,
we all contain failure and death within us,
but not even the successful man
can begin to describe
the impalpable elations and apprehensions of growth."

Renewal! There are so many lessons in the garden. I have an area I call the clinic. I put dead looking things there and see what Mother Nature will do. It's a good lesson in never giving up hope.
Enjoy your crisp, cool weekend!
OH, I LOVE THIS. "Growth is a greater mystery than death." Wonderful. Thank you so much. I needed this today as we get ready to leave our island until next summer.
Love to you,

Wonderful! So this just shows
we must never, ever give up
hope.
Love,
Sandy
So glad to see there is still life in that stick. I probably would have given up on it. Your poem is a perfect complement to your post today. Have a great weekend!
I love the Mailer quote FL. It is so true that the little sprout of growth showing is cause for celebration. Especially when realizing the plant could grow into such glory as your former photos show. Good Luck with it. ;>)
That is so wonderful! I love it when life struggles forward. Always trying to grow. You'll have to keep us up on it's progress. Kit
FlowerLady, this gives me great hope! Thank you so much.
This is a new plant to me! Did you say "brug"? I share your joy at the sign of life!
I think that anyone who has gardened can relate to your joy in seeing this once very beautiful plant revive.
A lesson in both botany and spirituality.
Congratulations! That brug was a beauty! Wish this new growth will restore its original beauty soon!
That Brug was gorgeous! You have really shown great patience and hope in nurturing that little stick. Not giving up too soon is a lesson for all but especially gardeners.
I just love it when something resurrects itself! Have had that happen quite a lot here this summer, after all the transplanting in the worst time of the year. Just kept watering.
That's really something, isn't it, and such an object lesson for not giving up -- on anything worthwhile!
What a lovely post. Yes. We must take heart in the plant that survives all odds, as it is metaphor for us all. Blessings. xoxo
What a lovely plant! I'm thankful it has come back for you. Growing things is an exercise in patience is it not?
Yay! It's wonderful that the brug is still alive after all, it's so beautiful in bloom.
