You can't always ...

...get what you want.

But if you try sometime,

you just might find,

you get what you need.

The Rolling Stones

***********************

In these uncertain times,
with a shaky economy around the world,
like the song says,
we can't always get what we want.

We may have to cut back on spending,
make do.
We think about life more
about what is really important.

We take the gift of each new day as it comes,
thankful for so many little things
we might have taken for granted before.

Life is what we make it.
We can wallow in our lack,
or we can soar with wings of thankfulness and joy
in all that we actually have.

From 'The Good Book' are the following thoughts:

for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Let your conversation be without covetousness;
and be content with such things as ye have

***

May we all take a minute or two to think about our many blessings.
We actually have more than we think we do.
In any given day,
we do have what we need for that day.

Walking in my gardens I am thankful
to the Great Creator,
for His many blessings,
His daily care,
His Love and Mercy.

So very true. Focusing on what we have and not what we want makes a big difference!

As usual, I love your thoughts and truths you share. We live in such a material world that screams at is about what we ' need ' to be happy, to be ' cool ' to be ' in '. Once we learn to muffle and ignore the call of this world and allow God's voice , through His word, to show us what is valuable...then we can be content. Hard to do , but will work. The true riches of God surpass and satisfy our desires, thanks so much, Gina

I frequently sing Johnny Appleseed's little song
'...and so I thank the Lord,
for giving me the things I need,
The Sun and Rain and the [apple] seeds.'

Thanks for the wise thoughts to remind us of appreciating more what I have!

The lines from that song have run through my head many a time in my lifetime to remind me how true it is that we are always provided with what we need...even if we don't exactly know what it is. Thanks for the reminder!

Funny, just seeing your title, the first few words to the song, and I was humming it. Then sure enough, you were apparently thinking the same thing.

One of the nice things about gardening is how easy it is to appreciate. And how much closer it can bring us to the One who designed it all in the first place. Gratitude is easy in a garden!

Good morning everyone.

As soon as I thought of that line I was also humming it in my head. The Stones are still a favorite group of ours today.

Meems ~ It is hard to be positive in these times, but it's healthier, mentally, spiritually and physically.

Jenni ~ Glad you liked. The Stones wrote a lot of good lines.

Nell ~ Thank you for that little bit. I need to see if I can find it anywhere, so that I know what the tune is. I always loved the Johnny Appleseed story.

Ami ~ We all need reminders to be more thankful and content. I am reminded daily by visiting and reading other blogs.

Susan ~ Oh so true that sometimes we don't know what it is that we need. God does though.

Dave and Trish ~ Thank you.

Grace ~ That tune will run through our heads that's for sure, at least if you are of a certain age group. :-) Great lines and reminder from them. ~ You are so right about gratitude being easy in the garden.
