A Sunday Afternoon

Good Sunday afternoon Folks ~ Time sure seems to be zipping by faster and faster these days.

It is warm, humid, breezy and partly cloudy today. It's not as hot and humid as it will get, but summer weather has begun.

This morning I did some weeding and hand watering. Still have the trimmings to clean up, but when the sun got to a certain point, I said, That's it for this morning.

While I was outside, the bread machine was making a delicious tasting and smelling loaf of Parmesan/Pepper bread.

Here is one of the blues in our gardens, Plumbago.

This is Phyllis Bide, a sweet little climbing rose.

This little boy overlooks the main garden. We bought him many years ago at a local flea market. The colum/birdbath that he is sitting on we found in an ally. It is probably about 8' tall, and took three of us to lift it into a truck. The orange is staining from our rusty well water that we garden with.

This is our screened room with jacuzzi, outdoor shower, ball and claw foot tub, a swing, and soon we'll have a little seating area too. We just got the jacuzzi working again, and I spent a short little time in it yesterday afternoon. The water was a tad cool, at 84 degrees. We only have it heated by the sun and yesterday was cloudy. Beyond the screen wall is the secret garden. I love this whole area, nicely hidden behind our little cottage, and not seen by neighbors.

Here is a little vignette of blanket flowers in front of God's hand holding Adam and Eve.

Thanks for looking and I hope you all have a great week.

I just wanted to let you know how much I love your blog and your absolutly beautiful home and gardens that you have. I am in zone 5, (Nebraska) and I cannot tell you how much I loved to look at your photos. They got me through the very cold winter this last year.

Good afternoon Flower Lady,
What a nice stroll through this part of your garden. Plumbago is blooming nicely here, too. It is such a great color in the garden.

I LOVE the column (even with the rust) you found and put to good use. It's nice your jacuzzi is cooling you off on these warm days... we've been in the pool again and thanking God for the relief after working in the garden.
Happy Sunday,
Meems

You find the best things. I need to start scavenging for art in the garden too. It's getting to be at that point. I love the screen room and outdoor shower. One day, I'll have a private enough yard to hopefully install a hottub of my own. Have a great night.

Your plumbago blooms are quite refreshing to see. Mine have not bloomed yet since early February. I could have used your too-cool jacuzzi yesterday while working at my son's property. It was stinkin' hot! He does have a pool, but it isn't ready for swimming yet.

That climbing rose looks so lovely with the sunshine. You have a very beautiful home and garden. I too love that column and the boy sitting on it. It is the things that we accumulated over the years and the memory associated with them made them even more special, isn't it?

I'm enthralled with your outdoor shower/jacuzzi/old iron bathtub area! I've been wanting at least an outdoor shower for quite awhile. Will have to get creative and figure out how to make it happen in time for hot weather this summer...

That 8' column found in an alley is wonderful, too! What a find!

My Plumbago is not blooming yet. How nice to have a private area AWAY from neighbors.

A jacuzzi and outdoor shower, very nice! I bet the sun really warms up the water where you are. Your Plumbago, rose and artwork are lovely. We have high iron content in our water too.

Your little boy looks like he has always been there setting on the birdbath. Ahh, a jacuzzi just the thing to get the knots out after a day of work or toiling in the garden. Your Plumbago is so pretty. I saw some in blogs last year and since I love blue flowers started some from seeds this spring. Thank goodness they are doing well. I will have to treat them as annuals here but will be worth it. Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Good morning everyone ~ I'm trying to get caught up and it isn't always easy. I do thank all of you for your kind comments.

Vicki ~ Wow, your post really touched me. I'm glad my little blog helped get you through the long winter. Thank you for visiting.

Gina ~ I love Plumbago. I just saw in another post yesterday that there is a red one. Blues are wonderful in our hot, humid gardens, they visually cool us off.
Hope yours will be blooming soon. I need to get some cuttings rooted to have more around the property.

Meems ~ Aaahhh, a pool would be nice, but alas, this is what we have been blessed with, and it certainly is refreshing.

Tom ~ Over the years we've found lots of outdoor items. The older we get though, we do not feel like hoisting heavy concrete pieces. Thankfully, we haven't seen any lately. The last piece we found is a round tile covered cement table top and it was almost too much for us to handle. It is our outdoor shower pad. ~ The way you are planting with your gardens, you'll have that private area before you know it.

FG ~ It really is nice and refreshing to sit in the jacuzzi and we are thankful for it.

Ami ~ Yes, things collected over the years do bring back memories and make them special. That Phyllis Bide rose is a real sweetheart.

Rebecca ~ You will not regret having an outdoor shower. There is something so wonderful and liberating about showering outdoors. I hope you can rig one up for this summer. ~ The column was a great find.

Darla ~ Yes, having a private area away from the neighbors is wonderful. The back and sides of our property are surrounded by privacy fencing, and this secret area, is surrounded on three sides by house and workshop and the secret garden on the other side which has a high hedge surrounding it and also my little shed, so it is very private.

Sweet Bay ~ Yes, the sun does heat up the jacuzzi, sometimes too much, and you have to wait for it to cool down. We have a thermometer that hangs in the water to let us know what the temp is. Yesterday afternoon we just sat on the edge and put our legs in as the temp of water was 80 and too chilly to get into. It was refreshing though just sitting there that way.

Lona ~ Wow, starting plumbago from seeds is really neat. Glad you were able to do that. They are such a lovely, cooling shade of blue. ~ The little boy has definitely attracted some 'age' sitting there. He has a nice patina, just the way I like things like that to look.

Thanks again everyone for your kind comments. If any of you are interested, just look up outdoor showers as there are portable ones you can hook up.

Have a great week ~ FlowerLady

I so enjoyed the stroll through your garden. You have some plants I've never heard of (plumbago). It's nice that they all have such lovely names. We have given names to our different gardens .. my favorite is Moose Meadow .. a little triangle section of our property left undisturbed and overflowing with wild flowers, and all native plants. Have a great week.
