Lemon Poppy Seed Bread

Actually this bread was supposed to have been Almond Poppy Seed Bread, but I didn’t have almond extract and looked to see what else I had. It was a choice between rum, orange or lemon extracts and I went with lemon.

From the book ~ “The BREAD Machine Book” by Marjie Lambert

This recipe is for a 1 1/2 lb. loaf.

Ingredients:

1 egg
7/8 c. milk
3 tbs. butter
3 tbs. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. almond or lemon extract
3 tbs. poppy seeds
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. old-fashioned rolled oats
2 2/3 c. bread flour
2 1/4 tsp. yeast
6 tbs. slivered almonds

Put all ingredients except slivered almonds in pan according to your bread machine instructions.

Set for white/basic bread, medium crust.

Press Start.

Add almonds at the beeper or after the first kneading.

Happy baking and consuming!

Hi Lorraine, How have you been? I am spending too much time on Facebook, and am not getting blogs visited.

I had to laugh when I read the 7/8ths cup of milk. I don't remember seeing this amount called for in a recipe before.

Sounds very tasty, but I don't have a bread machine! We would be as big as a house if I had one! Thanks for sharing the recipe for others to try! xo

The bread looks good. I like anything lemon, pie being a favorite.

I hadn't thought to flavor yeast bread? My cooking isn't very adventurous.

I can almost smell it. Yum!

Lemon sounds better than almond with the poppy seeds. Looks delicious. We bought the very same machine at a garage sale, but haven't used it yet.

Good evening Lorraine,
That bread looks and sounds delicious! I have just made a couple of Kgs of blackberry jam, and I now have an idea of what to spread it on. We haven't got one of those bread oven, and so will have to stick it in the conventional oven though.

It looks delicious and I can imagine that lovely warm bread smell. I must bake some bread again before the heat of summer really hits.

Just reading your profile made me cry. You are sooooo very blessed to have had such a love and a best friend to share this life with for so long. Ivknow the pain of the separation now is great but am thankful that you know itcis not forever. You will be together again. And God will be your love and gentle friend walking with you now. My grandma had a love like yours. She knew my grandpa since childhood. They married young and then he was sent to war. WWII. He passed away 13 yrs ago and she is 87 now still living in their little trailer home on land in NE. She just had back surgery and is healing well. I never thought she would live so long without him but she has and she misses him every day. God"s love is so great, it comforts us even when we think we cant be comforted. It is the peace that surpasses our understanding. Hugs to you ox

Since I love poppy seeds and almonds, this is sure to be a favorite of mine. Now, if I can get my mother to give me her bread machine. :)

Oh ... you mentioned you'd enjoy seeing my pie safe ... you can see it at this link, or by going to my blog and clicking on "dining room" in the categories.

Yummy!

Love the new look to your gardens after the tree cutting! Georgia Power comes to trim our power line row every 5 years. They try to stay on top of things and therefore, we have little power losses with storms.

We may be headed for some high winds with this Tropical Storm headed our way. Hoping for some rain but no high winds or damage...

What a sweet gift of the Prayer Shawl. You are an Angel...
