Something sweet and blooms I forgot

Well, to me it is sweet anyway.

I was heading out to work one morning week before last and we saw a Christmas tree thrown out across the street. What the heck, a week or so before Christmas?  Well, when I got back home there was the tree sitting in a stand that we had found a while back, that holds water, right by the screened porch entry.  I could see ‘why’ they had thrown the tree out, it was dying and needles were falling, but it smelled!  I was thrilled.  All week long I’ve enjoyed this wonderful scent as I walked past or as I was working in my shed’s garden.  Aaaahhh!  DH knows how I love the smell of a good Christmas tree.  Every Christmas I walk up to the trees at the grocery store and stick my face in them to take in their scent, I can’t help it. (We’ve had a few real trees over the years, but they aren’t worth the expense or the hassle. I enjoy my fake trees, they just don’t have that wonderful scent.)

So, here’s a picture of my Christmas aromatherapy this year.  I might be saving some of the needles for potpourri, or for putting in sachets.  The rest will become mulch.

There are many ways to show love each and every day,

and DH setting up this tree just for me

was one of them.

I took a picture of the yellow dwarf poinciana yesterday morning, and edited and cropped it for some close ups.

Lovely blooms. In the photo the tree still looks good and with it being outside isn't a bother with dropping needles.

That DH is one thoughtful fella. I know what you mean ... I love that pine smell too at holiday time. I did get a real tree from the tree farm in Boone this year. It still fills the house with that good smell. One man's trash is another's treasure...glad that tree found a home with you. I will fill mine with suet pinecones for the birds when I move it outside. Love that flower picture. Are the hummingbirds down there with you?

What a wonderful idea with the Christmas tree. I'm afraid the wonderful scent is something I take so for granted since we have hundreds and hundreds of them planted here.

I may have trees in abundance, but I do NOT have the beautiful flowers you have, oh they are so gorgeous.

Your DH is such a kind, loving husband, I love your new cellphone box and the caravan floor. How sweet!

Oh yes the scent of a Christmas tree. I miss it so. Years ago when children were at home we always had a real tree. Now for years an artificial one and this year I put no tree up. In some ways I missed it and in other ways
did not. If that makes sense.

We've always had a real tree, when we lived in the south, I was shocked at what was considered a Christmas Tree! But the lack of winter cooling and the constant heat and humidity are not conditions for a Blue Spruce or a Fir tree. We bought balled and burlap White Pines, kept them in giant pots and planted them after Christmas! Very expensive, but we needed the trees for the new construction yard!

How nice that you got such a sweet gift from your Hubby. It looks great where it's situated too. The smell of a conifer is really nice this time of year. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. 2012 will be awesome for all of us.

Oh what a special thoughtful thing to do for you. I love the smell too but due to dh's allergies I don't press the real tree issue but I love this idea. Perhaps I will pot up a small cedar from our property and have it near our door for next year and then plant it back out in our yard. Your flowers are always so lovely.

I miss the smell of a real tree as well, but do not miss the mess.

We should all print that bottom quote and look at it several times a week!

The poinciana blooms are stunning; they make me think of an exotic bird.

Once again your DH takes the prize for thoughtfulness! He is surely one of your greatest blessings.

What a wonderful DH you have! The smell of a fresh pine can't be beat. And it's pretty outside your door!
I love your blooms...so pretty! I'm partial to the yellow - very cheerful!
I got your message about a garbled email notification...not sure what happened?! Although I've experienced difficulties leaving comments on blogs at times...maybe that was it?! Not sure. Thanks for checking though!
Merry Christmas to you! Let's hope our pretty weather continues!

How nice to have your Christmas aromatherapy tree thanks to your sweet husband. I have had an artificial tree the past few years and just have to have some fresh "trimmings" from the tree lot to lend that wonderful pine smell to wreaths and table decorations. The yellow royal poinciana bloom is lovely. Is it a big tree?

Your Flower photos are beautiful and that Poinciana is lovely such a vibrant shade of yellow.

There is nothing like the aroma of fresh pine, the scent just brings to mind clean and fresh. I have used the needles in hot pads and mug mats once the hot dish is set on it a subtle scent is released.

What a great story, your DH sounds like a wonderful person. I love the smell of a Christmas tree too, that and the smell of tangerines which we always have around Christmas :).

What a sweet man you have there....but I'm sure I don't have to tell you that.
Pine is a favorite scent of mine too. I love pine scented candles too. Have a wonderful holiday weekend coming up. Balisha

That was the best Christmas present! My husband is allergic to pine...so no real trees here. :)

You know what always strikes me so much when I visit your blog, is the color. The color of your flowers are always so brilliant...just love it. When we are having winter here...always feels like summer over here. :-) Sending New Year wishes your way!

Your tree is a beauty, even if it's dropping needles. There is nothing quite like the scent of a real tree and I am so glad or you that you got to enjoy it somehow or other!
