Sunset, a mouse story, and prayer and thoughts for Japan

Good morning Friends ~ It is a chilly 55, and it did not get as cold as predicted. The wind was fierce yesterday afternoon as this cold front blew in. I was at work, DH was here at home working on a project. I called but got the machine, so left a msg. and about an hour or so later he called me back. He was outside when this started, and just thought oh it's a few drops of rain, it will pass. Well, it did do that a couple of times, even where I was 9 miles away, but then the winds blew and the rains came down. DH had to grab clamps to reinforce a hold down on some tin, and then clamp up some wood to keep the rain from going into where he was working and getting on his tools. Tork had been outside near him before this started, but when it came down, she dashed under the car. Thankfully the wind part didn't last all that long, maybe 10-15 minutes and the rain was another good soaking for about 30 minutes. This morning the sky is blue, there is a stiff breeze and the sun is shining.

Last night I saw the sunset so grabbed my camera and headed out. The pictures below captured some of the glorious beauty.

Looking north.
Looking west.
Looking south.

After supper I came in here to my little space to get online, and no lights were on. I sat in my chair and reached for my mouse. The slide out where my keyboard and mouse sit was slid back into the desk area, not sticking out. Not looking, just acting automatically, I reached for the mouse and grabbed the rock on the top of desk. Same basic location, same basic shape, but cold and heavy. What a hoot! I called DH in and said he had to see this because a picture is worth a thousand words. I then took a picture for you all to see. Yikes, do you think I need to clear off my desk. I think I'll do that as soon as I post this. :-)

With all that beauty and the lightheartedness shared, my heart goes out to those people in Japan who were effected by the earthquake and the resulting Tsunami. How devastating to be living your ordinary life one minute and have it taken away the next. If a Tsunami ever hit here, we'd be wiped out. We are only three miles from the beach.

While these catastrophes happen all around us,

and sometimes even to us,

let us be thankful every minute for our many blessings,

large and small.

***

We can only be said to be alive

in those moments

when our hearts

are conscious of our treasures.

That tsunami story is so very tragic. We are praying for them today here at PITV. Your sunset photos are gorgeous! I love seeing a palm silhouette in a sunset.

I would really take 55 degrees here and we are supposed to get it in time for next week! We are creeping closer to spring here, FlowerLady! Love those skies of yours! Praying for the people of Japan and New Zealand!

How funny about the mouse, I've done things like that too. The sunset is gorgeous, glad you had some nice rain. I am praying for the people affected by the tsunami, too...how horrendous.

What a tragic event in Japan! Our prayers are going up for all of those involved. I love your pictures of the beautiful sky. Isn't it amazing how many beautiful colors are created at sunrise and sunset? Carla

Glad you got some rain. Those pictures of the sky at sunset are so peaceful and the colors are magnificent. As we enjoy such beauty and serenity it is only right to remember to pray for others caught in a different experience. Thanks for the reminder.

Hard to imagine what has happened in Japan. So many people hurting today because of loss of loved ones and their homes. We all need to get down on our knees and thank God for all our blessings. Balisha

I have picked up the phone and pointed it at the TV and wondered why it wasn't working.

I could make you feel better and post a picture of my desk....and I just cleaned it off a couple of days ago.

Your sunset pictures are beautiful.

The earthquake in Japan was just horrific and to think it affected the west coast in the US too. It is hard to imagine all that devastation and yet Japan is the best prepared country in the world for these events.

Hi FlowerLady,
That was a beautiful sunset. I had to laugh at Glenda's comment. I've tried to use the phone for a remote before, too. Right now, I can't even put my computer on my desk because of all the stuff on it, so I use it in different rooms of the house. Every time I clean it off, I go to other rooms to clean, and then that stuff goes there to clutter it up again.

Oh, and I also laughed at your cold 55 degrees. I am looking forward to our high of 52 today.

I've been praying and watching the coverage of the events in Japan. What a tragedy! I wish the folks in Libya could get rid of their dictator. I've been following that, too.

Your photos are always a bright spot in the day.
An inward chuckle over your desk--how like my own. Strange little bits and pieces of my life end up there.

Sometimes our desks are our own little haven - and such a reflection of ourselves (except for the messiness).

Thank you again for being you.

That is a beautiful sunset! The picture on your computer screen looks somewhat familiar. Stuff gets "attracted" to my computer too, like a magnet.

Love your sunset skies ... such stunning colour! Skies like these always take my breath away with their beauty.

I had a little chuckle over your mouse/rock story ... that sounds so much like me! I need to wear my glasses all the time these days.

I would be under the car with Tork! We had no rain but some wind and the temps were not as cold as predicted here either. That was a good thing. Yes, so sad to think of everyday life turning into such disaster. So many natural disasters these days makes one wonder where it will strike next. I love the palm tree with the glowing sky! Florida has such beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I would have a hard time taking my eyes off that beauty! I vote keep your Christmas wreath on the fence if you like it!

You captured those sunset moments so well FlowerLady. My prayers are with those in Japan. I don't know what the news is today but every time I turn on the tv news events seem to have taken a turn for the worst.

Live everyday to the full, and be kind to one another - that's what I tell my children. I have friends in Japan, and hope they are OK

Your desk looks like mine! I sure hate to admit it but I can make up tons of excuses-wanna hear? Nah, they don't work. Anyhow that is a lovely sunset. So horrific for Japan and the world really.

What a beautiful sunset you've captured here - in addition to our sadness and feelings of relative helplessness in light of the pain and tragedies that continue in Japan.

I like it that you show your desk as it is. I think there are many of us who can identify with it much easier than some of the sterile, "perfect" images that are so common in magazines and blogland...
