As Thanksgiving draws near

I am thankful for so many things. The Love of God, the love that my DH and I share, our little cottage and compound, our critters. Thankful I still have my job. Thankful for the flowers and foliage growing in our gardens. Thankful that I love to cook and bake from scratch, thankful that there are threads, lace, yarns, beads waiting to be worked with into the next project. I'm thankful for each new day.

Lately I've read several blogs where some have lost spouses or other loved ones, or spouses have had strokes, or other things have happened in lives and it makes one stop and think about what is really important in this life.

It is NOT things that make our lives happy. Yes, they can give us joy for a moment, or maybe even many moments, but not true abiding joy. May we all stop and think about our lives, what is going on in them, and search for truths that will give us eternal joy. May Love fill our lives each and every day.

Here are some blooms, from roses that I am caretaker of in this life. They bring me much delight. Working in my gardens makes me think of God the Great Creator,
and I am thankful to Him.

O come, let us sing unto the LORD:
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving,
and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

For the LORD is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.

Know ye that the LORD he is God:
it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people,
and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him,
and bless his name.

For the LORD is good;
his mercy is everlasting;
and his truth endureth to all generations.

Psalms 95:1-3; 100:3-5

I rejoice in thankfulness for all He has
given. A grateful heart is a changed heart,
able to stand when the difficult times do
come. Yes, may love fill our lives each
and every day.
Your flowers, as always, are so lovely
and bring such joy. I am thankful I can
come to visit and see what your hard work
and patience has caused to flourish in
your gardens.
If you don't visit again before Thanks-
giving, I hope you and your husband have
a wonderful time however you are celebrating.
Blessings,
Sandy

You are right. Things bring a fleeting happiness but it is with our family and loved one and the Lord where we find true joy.

Oh, you are so right, we should always take time to smell the roses, hug our loved ones and remember what is really important. Life is so short and things are replaceable. Thank you for the reminder.

Thanks for this wonderful post. I can always count on you and your grateful spirit to bring me back where I belong.

Things have been a little trying for me lately, but in the grand scheme of things, they are petty and will resolve in their own time whether I agonize over them or not.

I ran into someone yesterday that I hadn't seen in a long, long time. She told me her dear husband died four years ago. She carried a picture of him on her cell phone and brought it up to show me. She said she still missed him terribly. There was so little of comfort that could be said, so we just stood there in the middle of a garage sale and hugged.

Like you, I have so much to be grateful for.

Hugs, Ilene

Thank you for a very good reminder about what is really important.

Sometimes certain things bring that to mind. I am reading a wonderful Civil War novel, Jacob's Ladder. The poor soldiers were on starvation. As we sat down to our breakfast of oatmeal pancakes, an egg with butter and syrup and really good coffee, I told my husband how fortunate we were just for good food.
I often think that if we are safe with warm shelter and have food, we shouldn't complain. Many others are not so fortunate in the world.
