Some roses

Good morning Folks,

Well, it’s morning here, Friday the 19th of October. It is still very warm and humid down here. We’re having rain and more rain.  We had a really lovely day a week or so back, when I wrote my last post, but it immediately warmed back up and the humidity is thick. Not as bad as August and September, but still miserable.

Ok, here are some of the roses in bloom down here.

This might be ‘Bon Silene’, but I’m not positive.

This is an unknown rose, given to me as a rooted cutting by a friend in CA. I thought she told me had the same name as her grandmother, and I think it was Mary Elizabeth, but I’ve not found any roses that match this one.  The first two photos were in morning sunlight.

These were taken in the afternoon, more the true color. It is nicely scented too.

DH is still healing. Fan on our a.c. unit went caput yesterday morning, so no a.c. for us. Sunday morning I’ll see if I can pull the unit out, (it pulls out of the frame, into the room), to see if there is a place to oil the fan. If not, I’ll shove it back in, and we’ll sweat it out. Smile At least it’s nearing the end of October. We are keeping windows shut to keep out heat and humidity, and have 3 ceiling fans going. We can’t afford to have someone come out to do this. We’re thinking of other a.c. options so checking into those. Hopefully, we can oil the fan and it will be good to go for another few years.  The unit is Friedrich’s very good make and is only 3 years old. We had units by the company before that have lasted years and years.

I’ll close with a verse I looked up this morning.

Mostly Roses :-)

Hello Folks ~ It is Saturday morning in my part of the world. Today is the last day of work for me this week. Next week, I’ll only be working one day, next Saturday, so have a week off to putter around home.

This morning after I got the coffee going in our stainless steel percolator coffee pot on the stove, I filled up the bread machine pan with ingredients for a loaf of bread and that is now baking. It should be done around 9:30, about 1 1/2 hours from now. Pretty soon it will start smelling delicious in here.

Thursday morning I took some pictures when I realized Chrysler Imperial had two blooms. I had smelled a wonderful rose scent the day before and thought it was coming from all of the blooms of Cocktail, not even seeing the one opened Chrysler Imperial bloom. That scent is really an old rose scent, to me it’s what you think of when you see a rose and how it should smell.

A sweet African violet my friend Nanci gave me. Her mother passed away recently and Nanci knows my love of flowers so brought this from her mother’s home in Vermont. I do hope I can keep it alive. It is in a north facing window. If any of you have good tips for growing these lovely indoor plants please let me know. I will greatly appreciate it.

That’s it for now. It’s time to get us some breakfast, then I need to gear up for work, getting my mind right. The past few days there has been someone there doing some work on pieces and she is what I call a psychic vampire, and it wears me out being around her. The past two nights I’ve gone to bed between 7:30-8 p.m. and slept like a log, waking up around 6. May I feel the peace and love of God surrounding me today, (something she doesn’t want to hear even the slightest suggestion about at all. I've known her for years and she's been in my prayers, it's all I can do). She is spoiled and seeks attention constantly. Fortunately for me, this has not been an every day occurrence for the past 13 years. I would have quit long ago.

May I see the good in this day, may I be nice and not nasty. May I keep my mouth shut when I might feel like saying things I shouldn’t.

Hope you all have a great weekend, with NO psychic vampires invading your space.

P.S. I just went in to the scullery and smelled the delicious aroma of bread baking and looked out the window and saw flowers and butterflies and felt God's love. That makes me feel better ready to face the day. I'm not perfect by any means and need God's grace each and every day, all day long.

Another Gorgeous day

It was a chilly 43 when we got up this morning and with the wind chill factor felt like it was 38. But it has warmed up nicely, 65 right now, and the sun is shining and it felt wonderful being outdoors earlier. I cut back the star jasmine hedge out front that was way out of hand, and I'm pooped. That's just the east side of the front gate, I still need to top the west side, but had done enough for one day. The bread machine made a loaf of bread while I was out working. I made us salmon pattie sandwiches with the bread for lunch.

Tonight I am planning on making a home made pizza, since we've not had one in awhile. We always enjoy that.

My boss told me last night before I left work that I will probably be working more and that was good news to hear. In the middle of the night when I couldn't get back to sleep for awhile I thought, uh oh, I'll probably not be blogging as much, or beading and embroidering as much either. I started both of these ventures about two years ago when the economy went south, and I had more time on my hands. So, I may not be in here as much as I have been in the past, we'll see.

Anyway, here are some pictures taken in the last few days. Click on the pictures for larger view.

The first three are of a sweet single rose named Cocktail.

Here we have Bon Silene.

As Thanksgiving draws near

I am thankful for so many things. The Love of God, the love that my DH and I share, our little cottage and compound, our critters. Thankful I still have my job. Thankful for the flowers and foliage growing in our gardens. Thankful that I love to cook and bake from scratch, thankful that there are threads, lace, yarns, beads waiting to be worked with into the next project. I'm thankful for each new day.

Lately I've read several blogs where some have lost spouses or other loved ones, or spouses have had strokes, or other things have happened in lives and it makes one stop and think about what is really important in this life.

It is NOT things that make our lives happy. Yes, they can give us joy for a moment, or maybe even many moments, but not true abiding joy. May we all stop and think about our lives, what is going on in them, and search for truths that will give us eternal joy. May Love fill our lives each and every day.

Here are some blooms, from roses that I am caretaker of in this life. They bring me much delight. Working in my gardens makes me think of God the Great Creator,
and I am thankful to Him.

O come, let us sing unto the LORD:
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving,
and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

For the LORD is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.

Know ye that the LORD he is God:
it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
we are his people,
and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him,
and bless his name.

For the LORD is good;
his mercy is everlasting;
and his truth endureth to all generations.

Psalms 95:1-3; 100:3-5
