Blooms in spite of heat and humidity

It is terrible here this morning. The humidity is so thick, you can almost cut it with a knife. We might need scuba gear if we hang out there too long, and we certainly don't need a sauna living down here.

After taking a few pictures I decided I was staying indoors today. I don't need to be feeling sick and there isn't anything pressing or urgent that needs doing outdoors. It is 83 and with the humidity at 75% it feels like it is 99. I am so thankful for air-conditioning.

The first few pictures will be of the Royal Poinciana tree - Delonix regia, that is two properties back from us. I love to see this bloom every year. In our area there are lots of these blooming all over and they are all beautiful.

You can find info about this tree that has been consistently voted among the top 5 most beautiful flowering trees in the world, here, here, and here.

This is looking at the tree from the end of our driveway, with abit of whimsy hanging on the fence. He is about 11' long, and was found curbside on the street east of us. I'm a pisces, and we live in FL where there's lots of fishing going on, so we brought him home. We didn't want to see him going out to the landfill. Then we could hardly find a place to hang him.

This is a hibiscus I've forgotten the name of again. I need to start a page for myself of pictures and names, because at this time in my life I'm not retaining the info for everything I read. If you know what I mean. :-)

Here is the purple flowering crepe myrtle in my main garden. It is another plant that has not bloomed in years, last year being the first time I remember it doing so. I love it. The blooms are huge like those of my Queen Crepe. The Queen's leaves are bigger though. I held the blooms in hand so that you can see how large they are.

That's it. Keep cool.
If you are working outside,
don't over do it.
Drink plenty of water, and take breaks.

Absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Wow, what a lovely tree, Flower Lady. :-) It's raining and cool here in Washington, nice stay-inside-with-a-good-book weather. :-)

Ditto. Ditto. Ditto. Let the rains come and cool us down.

Wow! The Royal Poincianas really light up when the heat is on, don't they? I seem to have read ten posts on this tree in the last two days. I know where every one in my county is located, and I need to make a road trip to view them all. I do it every year. You're lucky to have a view in your garden. I lost my specimen tree in the front yard last year, because we felt it was a hazard with its brittle branches. : ( I miss it. Its giant ferny branches were so beautiful even when not in bloom.

Anyway, your crape is absolutely beautiful! Are you sure it's not a Queen's Crape? Please let us know if you find out what it is.

That tree is so beautiful!

The humidity is horrible here already, too. It gives me a very sick feeling in the afternoons...an exhausted, weak feeling.

We need the rain here too. These are the days for morning only gardening in Florida. I'm enjoying your view of the royal poinciana as we don't have many around here. That crape is beautiful too. It's is definitely June!

Absolutely stunning flowers!

I don't know what I would prefer. Your hot temps or the snow we keep getting here.

FlowerLady - I have so many people here in Texas that want a Royal Poinciana tree. I remind them that it will not survive the winters... Do you have a source for folks to purchase in your area? Or a source for seeds? Thanks.

The poinciana tree is gorgeous. How nice for you that you can enjoy the neighbor's.

Hot here but so far, the humidity isn't bothering me. Of course, I am inside by 10:30 am!

The crepe myrtle is beautiful. I know some varieties can be grown here. An internet friend from our area has given me a cutting that survived the winter, I believe it is Acoma, a white. I will be watching it closely.

Beautiful Photos.

You can't get tropical blossoms without tropical weather. I hate 'feels like' temps. The worst here is when a sudden low cloudburst lasts only a few minutes and then we have steam. A good rain from high up cools off everything. I am grateful for humidity overnight so that the plants look refreshed early in the morning.

I have white crape myrtle blooms, pink but no dark pink or lavender yet.

I love the purple color of your crape, very beautiful! You are lucky to have that Royal Poinciana tree view from the house. I need to drive out to see this beautiful tree.

Hi, FL! Hope all is well, aside from the heat and humidity. It's pretty nasty out this afternoon and I hear it's supposed to heat up this weekend. Stay cool, my friend!
Your Royal Poinciana is stellar! What an amazing site. And I honestly LOVE your fish! LOL! Who'd think to hang it in the garden?!?! Great spot! Finally, I really like the color combination of the myrtle...so pretty!
Have a wonderful, cool weekend!

Uggh...I hate mugginess, so I don't envy you for once. But I do wish we could grow crepe murtles like yours here! Love the marlin on the fence wall too. How very coastal.

I love the ginormous fish on your fence! He's so awesome. I think he needs a name because he's certainly a presence in your garden now.

OMGosh, I can't even fathom that kind of humidity. My heart goes out to you. I hope you can get garden time during the early or late hours when it's more comfortable.

Love your whimsy swimmer on the fence. And that Crape myrtle blossom is luscious.

Coming from the Equator, I am feeling the same about the humidity. Stuffy and sweaty! Your Royal Poiciana is fuelling the fire but who can complain when it is such a beauty. The hibiscus is a hybrid of Rosa-sinensis. I have a Queen's Crape-myrtle (Lagerstoemia speciosa or Pride of India) in front of my house too. Mine is a small tree and it blooms twice a year. During the dry season, it will shed all its leaves but it won't do that if I keep watering it. It loves to drink a lot of water!
