The end of April already

This month has zipped right along, actually this year so far has been zipping. Our heat and humidity our starting up. It’s the time of year you just want to hibernate, from 11 a.m. on. I like to get out as early as possible. A lot of you are just being able to start planting as your last frost days are behind you and I know you are so ready to play in your gardens.

Thank you all so much for your kind comments about my last post and my little video. It was fun to do and I look forward to making more.

Yesterday I went to HD to buy some spackling and some ready mixed grout. Of course, I ‘had’ to go through the garden dept. and 4 little pots of herbs that were on sale came home with me. Two bee balm, 1 stevia and 1 Mexican tarragon. Then I went further on down the road to drop off some boxes at GoodWill. That felt great.

I kept going on down the road until I came to the little nursery I’ve passed the past few years, but never visited as I don’t go out that far west much. Since they’ve done some building up around it you almost don’t see it anymore. It’s a narrow property but about 1 acre and full of plants. It is rather on the ‘wild side’, kind of like Plum Cottage Gardens. If I had unlimited funds I would have bought more than I did, but alas I held myself in check. The lady who worked there was sweet and has worked there for 15 years. Another lady works in the afternoon. There were also 2 felines hanging around. One let me pet it and she said he liked me because he hardly lets anyone do that.

Here are the plants I bought: 2 ‘Drift’ roses, one coral and one pink, (she gave me one that had no flowers that was looking worse for wear). 3 geraniums, 2 are purple and the other is reddish/purple. One reddish/purple Buddlia, and one plant I’d never heard of or seen before, X Ruttyruspolia or Ruddy Rose Pink.

Ruddy Rose Pink ~ You can read about this plant here. Butterflies love it as well as other insects.

Buddlia ~ I love the honey scent of these. Butterflies were all over it this morning.

Geraniums ~ the purple ones have waxy like leaves. I got these for $1 each.

‘Drift’ roses. I really like the pink.  These aren’t going to stay in the antique concrete containers as the one is in the shade and roses like sunlight. I have not seen these roses before.  Googled them when I got home and I’m happy with my purchase. These both have more buds and you can read about them here. I’m hoping the one I got for free is the pink. Time will tell.

There is a possibility that I might work at this nursery, mostly the afternoon shift. I gave her my name and number. I was all excited about that yesterday afternoon, but this morning I got to thinking about how hot and humid it is here in the summers and I just don’t know if I could handle sitting in the little open sales area with no shade over head covering the roof. Not to mention mosquitoes. I’d have to find something natural to take care of mosquitoes as I don’t want to smear myself with chemicals. Anyway, if it is meant to be, it will happen. If not something else will come along.

I really like this area of plants against my newly painted cottage. I’m planning to paint the hanging bird cage the aqua color. It will really stand out then. You can see my 4 little herb plants sitting on the top shelf, waiting to be repotted.

Here are some other blooms growing in my gardens.

Golden Rod that I bought last spring. This one is a Florida native.

A lovely pink hibiscus.

That’s it for now. Tomorrow morning I hope to get out early to repot some plants. It’s also one of my days to water plants with the sprinkler, which I move from area to area, using a kitchen timer set for about 15-20 minutes each section.

Next week I hope to do some spackling, grouting and painting inside. I need to finish up the bathroom, for one thing, and work on other walls in rest of house too.

Whatever you are up to, wherever you are, I wish you God’s love & peace.

Have a great weekend ~ FlowerLady

All your flowers are just beautiful. That hibiscus is gorgeous, I can't grow them here, too cold in the winter and not near enough rain in the heat of summer. But I so enjoy seeing your photos!

Good luck on your bathroom and spackling project etc. I know about the "fog of mourning", having lost some family members, and it seems that the "fog" was our Father's way of protecting us in a hard time. So keep up the small accomplishments and they will inspire you to tackle more. Take Care!

If the job is meant to be, it will be yours. But you know, there are lots of places that might have jobs in their plant departments, places that offer insurance and other benefits. If it doesn't materialize, might be a sign that there is another door open to you somewhere else, where you will not have to sit out in the sun and mosquitoes.

Never a shortage of work to be done! We're off to the Master Gardener's Annual Plant Sale this morning, maybe I'll buy a lot, maybe not. But we go every year and I'm looking forward to it.

Hugs, xoxoxo

As usual, I loved looking at all your flowers. A great way to start Saturday morning :-) I adore going to nurseries to look at plants too, I always walk around wishing I too had an unlimited budget. There's something so grounding about flowers, so beautiful. I love your little corner with all the plants, I can't to see how the turquoise birdcage works there. I suspect it will really make the area pop!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend FlowerLady!

You got yourself some nice plants at reasonable prices. I have the pink drift rose that you bought, and I love it. Your orchids are lovely too, but that's a plant I have trouble with...I usually kill it when I have to bring it inside. Have a great weekend. _Janice

Your garden flowers are gorgeous and so glad you got them at good prices. I love the drift roses and have several bushes too. They do so well in the hot sun.
Hope all works out for the position. It sounds perfect for you but I understand about the heat. If it's meant to be it will work out, if not, God has another plan for you.
Have a great weekend. Blessings, xo

Oh, my! That's seems like an ideal job for you - with your knowledge and appreciation of plants.....

I envy your familiarity with plants, their names, their requirements for growth!

I seldom buy plants (guess that's why I have so little variety and color) but I WOULD like to acquire a Butterfly plant!

Sound like a busy weekend for you. Take time to "smell the roses" :)

I'm so sorry to have been away for so long Flowerlady. I see that I have missed some beautiful posts and hope to stay in touch better than I have.
I love what you brought home from the nursery (which sounds like a place I would love to visit) and those plants will be a wonderful addition to your already beautiful garden! The things you have blooming now are just so gorgeous. The photo of that pink hibiscus almost stopped my heart!!! It is amazing. I have never seen one that pretty! Oh to have orchids in a garden must be heavenly. I just love your green thumb (and fingers)!
sending hugs...

Oh always so gorgeous! That buddlia is absolutely amazing!! How I would love some of those in our yard.
You are always such a busy gal, good for you. About the time you are getting in and out of the heat,I am just starting to play outside. Ha!
We have been having cold weather with snow flurries every day for two weeks. Fortunately the flurries are quite wet so they do not last long on the ground.
My husband and I worked in our creek today and it snowed lightly all day. It was cold, but invigorating!

Love and hugs~~

I really like your new Drift roses--Drift roses are on my gardening wish list. I like that they're disease resistant and will stay pretty small. The little nursery you visited sounds like a neat place. It sure had some good prices and some interesting plants! It does sound like it might be a fun place to work.

Beautiful flowers in your garden. So many sorts that I do not know by name. I wish you good luck and strength for all of your "spackling, grouting and painting" this week. God bless you.

Your flowers are so beautiful. It has been such a cold and dreary week here in northern IL - only in the 40's! I haven't been able to plant anything except pansies. My butterfly bush won't be in bloom like yours until August.
I agree that sitting outside in the heat and sun in the midday would not be good. You might want to re-think that. ;-)
Hope you have a beautiful week!

Good morning, FL! Am so happy about the job possibility! I think that would be such a grand fit for you. Here are some ideas, maybe? Make come insect-repellent lotion bars. I make these. Try melting in a double boiler: 1/3 beeswax, 1/3 olive oil, 1/3 coconut oil. Then add these essential oils as you desire: citronella, lemongrass, eucalyptus, rosemary, cedarwood, tea tree, lavender. I find these at the local GNC/healthfood store. They last a very long time -- you could make these bars for years. They work well b/c those ess. oils repel insects, plus the bars are very good for your skin. And b/c it's a solid, you can carry it with you and re-apply it. PErhaps you could wear a good sun hat, and take along a small fan to keep a breeze on your face.
Thank for the beautiful flower photos. I'm sure those folks looked at you and knew right away you are a plant LOVER :)
