It was fun

Good morning Folks ~ Well, the little flea market was NOT busy like usual. I was told their ad wasn’t right this time, and I noticed that they had a small sign posted out on the street, whereas they used to have a huge one. (Maybe someone stole it?) I made a whopping $3 yesterday, but got some goodies, made a couple of friends, enjoyed the experience, was told I had interesting things, more than the rest of the sellers and I plan to go again next month.

It’s been over 25 years since the last time we set up at a flea market and this time I did it all by myself. They supplied a nice long, sturdy table and a chair.  I had mostly ‘antiques and collectibles’. The two large books are from 1862, filled with history and engravings of eminent Americans. They were the most popular item on my table. Not being advertised properly really cut on buyers but there is always next time and this quiet sale gave me a time of getting used to this again.

Now, here are yesterday’s goodies and my sheets. Smile

This fabric below, is indoor/outdoor, and I plant to make a cover for the cushion that’s on the swing in the screened room off the back of cottage. It’s about 52 inches wide by 6 ft. long.

Love the rose bud fabric. 54 inches wide x about 10 ft. in length. I plan to make this into a bed skirt.

The thing about the fabrics is that on set-up day the lady was asking $5, each bundle, then yesterday when I went in and was sitting there next to her she said $4 each to someone.  After awhile, she said to me, take both of those that you like for $5. I could hardly believe it, but I said ok.  At the time I didn’t know what I would do with either fabric, got the ideas after I got home. Then she later she gave me the bag of polyfill for nothing.

***

When the lady came around to collect our fee money, and asked us if we’d be back next month, and would I like the same spot, I said yes to both, and Elaine the lady next to me said “Yes, for me too and I want to be set up right here next to Rainey.” That made me feel good. She’s been doing this little flea market for 5 years.

***

The little basket of flowers was 25 cents. The two necklaces $1 each.  The one is stone or glass small beads, and the other has the pink beads with a rose on each bead. Both will be used in my creations.

Wanted to show you the pintucked edge which is on the top sheet and the pillow cases that were part of my goodies of the day on set-up day.

That’s it for now.

Thank you for your sweet comments about Miss Rosie, and I’m pretty sure she’s a girl. I do have 4 other girls, 3 barn kitties, and one indoor kitty. I didn’t need or want another one, but her pitiful cry and little hungry body tugged at my heart strings. Yes she is filling out, and she is so shiny and a real joy to have accompanying me in my gardens. If I could find someone who wanted her though, I would let her go to a new home. For now, she’s home here at Plum Cottage.

My latest creation. She has gold thread on her head but with the next one I will try to make her a better halo and do some other tweaking. She was fun.

Enjoy your gift of this new day.

I have spent many days selling at bazaars and flea markets like this and made some good friends . I too have discovered some good deals at them and also made some great swaps. On the few occasions where the bazaars were consistently and reliably held I discovered people were actually seeking me out later to buy items they saw me selling at previous bazaars. There is a lot to be said in favor of being reliable at these events even if the first few are not too profitable. Plus, you're making new contacts and maybe even new friends !

Looks like you scored there !!!!

Glad you had a good time, Rainey!

I have not done a flea market/craft sale in years but I used to love doing them. Meeting and getting to know the other vendors was half the fun for me.
Good luck next time.
Have a great Sunday enjoying your great "buys and finds". xo Diana

Dear Lorraine, I enjoyed reading your post about your little flea market adventure! Love especially the bed linens and the rose beads necklace. I have only set up for a flea market two times in my life, but I really loved it, even though it was a lot of work. Unfortunately my life is too busy now to do that, but you inspired me to at least to visit one myself.
Warm regards,
Christina

Often you will find goodies just meant for you, and this is the fun part. Wee Miss Rosie, she landed on all 4 paws when she came to your home. Lovely angel, she will be a wonderful addition to any decorations at Christmas.

I love all your cute finds, especially the sheets and fabric. I would have purchased them also. I'm glad you had a nice time getting back into the swing of things. More good stories to come, I'm sure.

I'm sorry the sale wasn't advertised better, but glad you had a good time. I'll bet the next one will be better. You're so talented, Rainey. I well know the tug of the heart strings when it comes to kitties, their plaintive mewing is so hard to resist. I hope you have a wonderful day, dear one.

You really had your lucky day to be able to buy the beautiful fabrics that cheap. You had a nice start at the fleamarket meeting a nice lady next to your table. Wish you a lot of success and fun next time.

So much fun!! I'm glad you were set up by a nice, friendly person and wish you well with the next flea market day.

The little angel you made is adorable, looks like you had some wonderful items at the flea market, from my own experience it takes a few times of setting up at these events to feel comfortable and your sales will improve too with time. I always say its timing for the seller and getting the right buyer, they are out there.

I love flea markets, love to look at all those small pretty things and ask sellers about them. You have lots of lovely small treasures there, Lorraine! The books are incredible!

It sounds like an interesting day (if a bit unprofitable in the $$ department....). I think you had great merchandise - and well displayed, too! I know you'll arrange those beads into a beautiful creation :)

Selling at the market sounds like fun. I would buy that guy carved from the palm tree in a heartbeat. Is it too heavy for shipping? How much do you want for it. You can email me if you wish - smyers1108atgmail.com

Have a great week.

Many years ago a friend and I shared a table at a craft fair held week-long at a local mall. The sales weren't really great and by mid-week I wasn't looking forward to the drive to and fro.
It was at least an interesting experience, especially meeting the other vendors and browsing their offerings.

I love all your offerings and would have loved to be at this show! Stick with it, I'm sure you will find success. You found some pretty things! I love the flower basket - I have two of them very similar that were my Mom's. I used to do craft fairs and antique shows with my Mom - we had a booth together. It's so nice to make a friend.....Best of luck for next time. Hugs xo Karen

Sounds like your flea market adventure was a good time all around. Those two books would have been the first thing to catch my eye too. :-)

Looking forward to seeing what you create with you new found beads.

I bet you will do great at the next flea market when they get the advertising right! I love the thrill-of-the-hunt, never know what I'll find! It's always fun to find something to use in a project and look forward to seeing what you'll be using those pretty pink beads on! Hope you're having a wonderful week! Maybe we'll cool off soon - oh, please! :)

You found some wonderful things at this sale. What a pity that it wasn't advertised better, I guess this one will have to be a trial run! You are so clever with your handiwork and I love the little angel you made. It will be lovely to see what you come up with for the beads.

Have a lovely weekend!

Well, you couldn't pass up those wonderful fabrics at that price! Even if I didn't know what I was going to do with them, I would have made the purchase. Nice of her to give you the polyfil. Can't wait to see your "new" bed. :)

What fun. We've been doing markets and craft shows this year helping my uncle sell some planes and helicopters he made. He and my aunt are now in assisted living and there was an auction for the farm and household stuff, but he made little planes that he used to sell or give as gifts. He still had over 500 in the garage. We've enjoyed the people most of all at the markets. Hope your next one is even better.
