Rose de Rescht, flowers, granny heart & a smile

Good early evening Friends ~ My heart and prayers are going out for all dealing with this latest round of ice/snow/sleet nasty weather.  I have a friend in NC and two in northern GA who are in the thick of it.

I feel a little ‘guilty’ living down here in s.e. FL where it was in the low 80’s, stiff breezes, and sunshine today.  We are expecting thunderstorms through the night. I decided yesterday since rain was coming to get out and mow this morning and that’s what I did, plus I pulled weeds, trimmed, raked and bagged, for about 3 hours. It felt good being outdoors accomplishing what I did.

This morning before I went out to work, I raised the blinds here in my little space and what did I see but the first opened rose of my sweet ‘Rose de Rescht’ from Deb and her husband. I took some pictures from inside, then had to get out there and put my nose in the bloom because it is supposed to be deeply scented. Oh my gosh, the scent is just what I want in a rose, beautiful, wonderful. I love roses with scents. Whenever I see a rose and lean down to smell it, if there is no smell, I am disappointed.  Anyway, here are the pics of this lovely rose from morning through this afternoon. I love the effect with the lace curtains I just bought $3 for two pr.

That inspired me to see what else I could find in the gardens to be photo worthy.

This I’m not sure of.  I thought Old Blush, but I don’t really know.

Don’t remember what this little spreader is. It takes over by ‘spitting seeds’ everywhere. Really, I can hear the seeds as they leave the plant. I’m amazed I’ve not been hit yet.  Although maybe the sound is greater than the flight of seeds.

Caravan & heart patio area

This area below is the ‘stag garden’ and I got the idea to use these broken marble pieces that we have in our stash as another patio beside the caravan. To the right of the caravan in the photo above. I’ve still some tweaking to do, may just lift them all up, jumble up the soil and get rid of weeds etc. level it out and lay them back down better. This is work, lift, move, bend, over and over. Smile

I crocheted this ‘granny heart’ the other day.

I love it.  It is a free pattern and you can find it here.

Last but not least, a smile to end this post. Last night I popped a chicken pot pie into the oven and when it was done, I poked vent holes in the top to let out the steam. I was doing this randomly and when I got done and looked at it I cracked up and had to take a picture.  Couldn’t have done this as well if I had tried.

The aroma of supper tonight is beckoning, Moroccan Chickpea Chili.

Your smiling pie is just the cutest.
I like your header photo by the way, and I am inspired by this post to go out and check my roses.

We are in the middle of a beautiful snow storm and loving it, as long as the power doesn't go out. It has been years since we had such a big snow.
Your flowers are beautiful, as always and I love your crocheted heart.
Love & Prayers,
Sandy

Definitely no flowers here--and I'm fearful of what the hard freezing of January has done to my gardens. Your rose looks just as an old-fashioned rose should--how lovely.

Lorraine,
The roses and the curtains are beautiful and I'm with you, I want a rose to smell like a rose! The smell is half the beauty, don't you think?
I love all your heart stuff and especially your own crocheted handi-work, very nice! Happy Valentines day to you,
Teresa

Rub it in Rainey! We have been struggling to get above freezing for the last two months. And many of the nights have been below zero with windchills in the negative 20s and a couple of times negative 60 degrees!
But it is very beautiful (just picture Dr. Zhivago). It will be at least May before all the snow melts, so I'll have to be content to look at your garden. Thank you very much!

Oh Lorraine, the Rose through the lace - clever and so pretty!
-chuckle- the pie!
and last, you have inspired me - I am going out to mow the front at least, and pull some weeds! Yes indeed I will!

Love your smiling pie and the beauty of the rose. You were so lucky to be able to work in your garden today. I so long to play in the dirt!

I am contemplating on that red flower which pop seeds when ripe, i don't know it either, is it a legume? Yes we pity our friends and mostly the creatures in areas still in deep winter. I am trying to convince them to come over and escape from the cold, and i put photos which might perk their hibernating senses, haha!

Then suddenly you showed us that pie, serendipitously it is telling you something. What a lovely creation. I laughed on that!

HA! I love the seed spitter storey; I too wonder what that is. Is it a vine? I wonder how it would do here, If you happen to get hit with some seeds again, I would pay to have some mailed to me. Do they need full sun?

YOU did that rose picture perfectly, I love the photos and how you shot through the lace. I can only imagine the fragrance.

OUCH on lifting those marble slabs, I bet you are pooped by the time you are finished but you can then look back on your accomplishments and enjoy.

I marvel as those that can crank out crochet or knitting projects in a matter of hours, I have watched folks do this and not even watch what they are doing and never drop a stitch. This is a lovely heart and you have quite the talent.

NOW how can you eat that if its smiling back at you???? But it looks so good!!!

I love the smiling pie.

'Glad you and your helper got the plumbing figured out too. The HEART at the end. . . ! Amazing. I love that.

I think your "spitting seeds" spreader is red barleria (coral creeper). I brought some of Mom's seeds home and now have them creeping through one of my beds. I happen to love them.

I always love your posts . . . so warm and inviting.

Love and hugs,

eli

You have some wonderful flowers. It has to be very rewarding to see them all doing so well. The shed is so unique and it's history is so sad and happy too.

I imagine the pot pie was extra tasty with such a cute smile!
We have a little weed that spits its seeds ~ everywhere! in early spring. It doesn't amount to much and dies back before summer.
I love seeing all your lovely garden features.

What a gorgeous rose and seen through the thin veil of your new sheers it is so romantic looking. So glad it's fragrant too! That's the whole package - fragrance and beauty. Wishing you a wonderful day, Shirley.

I love your crochet heart, and the smiling pie ! As much as I love the flowers blooming and a warm spring day, I do love the cold blustery days that allow me to justify staying indoors, even if that sometimes entails wrapping up in a blanket while I read, write, spin wool, or cuddle a warm cat. That being said, I love your flowers , maybe once in the winter a snip of bloom is very nice. I can see them here on your blog, thank-you !

Love back AT you, Lorraine! I am so jealous of the hours you were able to spend outdoors. I think a good part of my "funk" is being cooped up.

The caravan's patio is turning out so nicely (but I can imagine it IS quite a bit of work bending, lifting, etc.)

Roses and lace. Perfect for this Valentine's Day. I hope your heart smiles as broadly as your chicken pot pie today ♥

Lorraine, your garden is just beautiful and I agree with you about roses that don't smell. What's the point.

I too feel a tad guilty about the wicked winter everyone seems to have, including the south, and living in south Florida and having beautiful weather. But I suspect they won't want to trade places with us when it's August & September and it's hot and humid down here and a hurricane is brewing and headed our way. As they say, what goes around comes around. Have a great weekend.

WHAT a bloom! That's huge. Makes you just want to BURY your face in it, doesn't it? What a lovely gift. I know you'll enjoy that rose bush for many years. Your pot pie looks warm and comforting too.
