Yard sale goodies and curbside freebies

Happy Labor Day USA Friends ~ I hope you here in the states are enjoying the holiday. It is partly cloudy, 87 degrees and feels like it’s 95. Not as bad as it has been. I even felt a ‘hint’ of fall in the air the past couple of mornings, a tiny ‘hint’ but one none the less. Hurray!

The ground is still squishy from all the rain we got from Isaac, some plants have croaked from too much water, but I think some of them may come back. My heart goes out to all those who lost so much more with Isaac.

Saturday morning was the first hint of autumn and I felt happy heading off to work. I took the little scenic route through an area with cute little cottages and homes, and stopped at a yard sale hoping to find some beads, threads or what have you for needle working. No such luck but I did buy a book on the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam filled with paintings. ~~ DH (dear husband) and I were there in 1973 while on our 60 day backpack tour of Europe before we came back to the states, after living in Spain for the past three years. DH had been in the US Navy, stationed in Spain and we planned this trip for months before we headed out in March 1973. That was a wonderful experience, traveling by train to 9 different countries. ~~ Anyway, the book was $1. A bargain.

I resumed my trek to work and on the way found these iron tables curbside. Errrrt! That’s a stepping on the brake noise. I pulled over, and ignored a man across the street doing yard work, (I get a little embarrassed picking stuff up off the street sometimes, especially in the richer neighborhoods), and proceeded to load these into the back of my old Mazda MVP. They were light and they fit. The only thing missing was a piece of glass to fit in the top tray area of the larger piece. (I found a piece of iron grating that works for now, in our stash of ‘stuff’ here at home the next morning, not shown in the photo.)

I continued on my journey driving along the lovely intra-coastal waterway for a short distance, then turned down a side street and saw another yard sale.

Again I was hoping for some beads, etc.  No beads but this is what I came away with all for $2. I had a bag of the darning threads with the cone of white thread and the batch of cream colored embroidery floss picked out, for $1.50 and the lady added all the rest for another 50 cents. You can see that I have already crocheted a tiny flower from one of the spools of darning cotton. Really soft thread, something I’ve not used before.

So, there’s the start of September. Autumn is coming. DH is doing better. I did some researching on google and we are doing the right things, it just takes time for cramped muscles to heal.

I just got out some Italian sausage for homemade pizza. Need to get the dough going in the bread machine for the crust around 4 p.m. We love homemade pizza.
