I finally got photos in order and made a video with them of the night blooming cereus that is growing on our front gate arbor. To me the flower didn’t have much of a scent at all so I was disappointed after hearing so much about the wonderful scents these flowers have. The bloom is fantastic though as you will see.

On a sad note, an online friend of ours lost her husband from a heart attack yesterday. He was in his mid 60’s, our age. Please keep her and her family in your prayers at this time. Thank you.

Lorraine what a great slide show...yes amazing bloom..I saw one at the nursery yes the flowers are bigger than mine and they are dragon fruit.I bought a red one...and they dont smell..my plant is a flat leaf variety with no fruit...and its the one that has the smell only at midnight!!
It's gorgeous! I have one too-different type though and for the first time in like 8 years it has bloomed. The flowers are nice but like you said, not much of a fragrance.

Wonderful slide show, Lorraine! I'm glad to see your blooms up close. I'm pretty sure that yours is Epiphyllum phyllanthus while mine is E. oxypetalum, two of about a dozen different Epis.
If you look on my Seedscatterer header, I put up my night blooming cereus pic yesterday. Here's how they differ at a glance: The tepals on yours are greenish while mine are a reddish tan when almost ready to bloom.
The stamens on yours are yellow, while mine are almost pure white. Your leaves (they say those are really a flattened stem) are longer and narrower.
The fragrance: E. oxypetalum has a fragrance you can't miss. Cloying, sweet and spicy.
These are the differences that I can tell from your description and photos and from what I read online.
Seeing these cacti bloom is a real treat.
Your roses are so lovely with minute drops of rain clinging to the petals. Hopefully the rain will pass soon so you can enjoy your garden before the season changes.
