Homemade Powder Laundry Soap

Good morning Friends ~ Hope your week has been good so far. It is still very hot and humid here. Cooler weather is expected this weekend.

Today's post will be a wonderful recipe for making laundry soap. I love the smell of it. It is easy to make and is so much cheaper than store bought. I found this recipe in a forum, and have seen it other places since.

The recipe is easy.

1- 14.1 OZ BAR Zote soap. (Can be found in Big Lots, Mexican grocery stores, or on line.)

1 1/2 CUP ARM AND HAMMER ..... SUPER WASHING SODA..

1 1/2 CUP 20 MULE TEAM BORAX (found both of these at our local grocery store)

Grate the bar of soap finely, then mix with other two ingredients. I used my blender to mix all ingredients together.

One bar makes 56 wash loads per batch. Use 2 TBS. per load or if you have hard water 4 TBS. per load.

If you cannot find Zote soap, you can use Casteel or Fels Naptha.

***************

I need to make up another batch myself, and can almost smell it just thinking about it.

Below is a bar of the zote soap, plus the finished product. Also my 'energy saving solar dryer'. :-)

Happy Laundry Day

Very cool! I have seen people do this, but I have never tried it! I may have to give it a whirl! I am starting a seed swap. So if you are interested just leave a comment on my latest post! Should be fun! We would love to have you!

I couldnt find Zote, only the Fels Naptha. It smells so clean. I didn't make the recipe. but I have grated some in the washer and used it for spot cleaning. Such a clean, smell. AND your solar dryer would make that even better! Wish I still had room for that in my back yard. sheets on the line are fabulous!

Hello Flower Lady,

Thank you for posting this great soap recipe. My sister uses this and swears by it. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I should.

We got some cool weather this morning and a break from the humidity. I tried making that laundry soap with Zote one time, but the Zote part never dissolved in the washer. Do you wash on warm or cold?

I love this recipe. I found the Zote soap at our local HEB. I plan to try it if I ever do laundry again. I am thinking it over.

I love your yard. My kind of yard, and if you saw my yard, you would agree. We might be kin.

I haven't considered making my own laundry soap, but I should try it!

I love the shot of your garden -- what is the piece in the center?

Sheesh! How do you do that? You make laundry look like a romantic affair. The recipe was so simple and it sounds like it is a fantastic scent. I would like to try it.

D.P. ~ It is a great recipe and I love the smell of it.

Vicki ~ Living in FL does have it's bennies. Being able to hang clothes out on the lines all year is one of them.

Jane ~ It does make a pretty soap.

Debbie ~ You are so right about sheets being hung on the line to dry are fabulous.

azplantlady ~ It's nice to hear that others like and swear by this recipe also. I think you would like it.

Marti ~ I cold water wash all the time. The zote soap was greated really finely, maybe that's the trick, I don't know. Plus, if I remember right, I let it dry out a bit before I stored it. I really need to make another batch.

Matty ~ Did you give this recipe a try? What do you think?

Jenny ~ You might need to tighten up the lines a bit. :-)

Janie ~ I just visited your blog and I know I would love your place. I just love your 'Aimee Vibert' rose.

Sweetbay ~ I guess by the piece in the center, you must mean the brass headboard. We found that curbside shopping several years ago. I move it around occasionally, so far I like it here, but who knows where it will end up next. :-)

LeSan ~ Oh that doing laundry was romantic. Although, it is all a matter of mind, so, romantic it will be when I go to do mine next time. I really do need to pretty up my laundry room.
