Good morning Friends ~ I want to thank all of you for your prayers, positive thoughts and good wishes for this first hurricane that I am dealing with without my dear husband.
I was so exhausted mentally, emotionally and physically last night that I went to bed earlier than usual. Woke up once in the night where I couldn’t get back to sleep. A gazillian and one thoughts racing through my head, what if’s and past storm rememberings. All NOT a good thing to do. We get assailed in the dark of night with lots of negatives. I talked to Jesus and finally fell back to sleep.
I had read a devotional yesterday in my email and it was all about God’s knowing, and He certainly knows what I am going through with this latest adventure without my DH.
This morning I came across this verse ~ Pro 3:5 ~ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Or your past storms rememberings.) I do feel calmer this morning than I did yesterday and I am thankful for that.
This is the storm’s projected path as of 5 a.m. this morning. I drew an arrow to my area on the east coast of the state. I’m praying along with lots of people that it doesn’t turn more westerly.
I went out a little bit ago and took pictures of Plum Cottage boarded up from the outside. These pieces of plywood, were bits and pieces we had in our stash and DH just cut them to size or made some to fit with 1x4’s. We did NOT want to go out and buy new plywood, so we used what we had. Some are a tad worse for wear, 12 years later. DH cut the heart in the wood, when we were getting ready for Wilma 11 years ago. I came home from work and he had done them. Sweet, sweet, sweet! My heart just swells with love for him.
Please excuse all of the not very pretty stuff. I see lots of projects I want to work on this fall/winter/spring. 5 months of dealing with the worst of plantar fasciitis and the summer heat and humidity kept me indoors.
Living room and my creative/computer space.
South bedroom wall
West bedroom wall
East living room wall
Looking south from the screened porch/main entry which leads into the kitchen.
Screened porch east side. Decided to leave the sides of porch uncovered.
Looking north from screened porch.
Kitchen/scullery wall.
Another view from the driveway.
Scullery window box cover. Very shabby, not so sure about the chic though.
Overgrown main garden path looking north at the boarded up workshop south windows.
This is the north side of the workshop. There is another two windows on the west side, one is covered the other is not, as I couldn’t find the cover we made.
This is looking at the back of the cottage (left) and the east wall of workshop (right), through the screen of that area. The winds may blow out more of the top screening, but it will just add to the already blown out bits created by raccoons.
The flowers looked pretty in this picture, in the calm before the storm.
Clothesline/caravan garden area.
Ok, that’s it. I need to eat breakfast, then start on doing a few more things to batten down the hatches here at Plum Cottage.
Thanks again for you love & support.

Lorraine,
I really am praying this does not hit you head on. I know those hurricanes are so rough to live through. Please stay safe. I know all these firsts without your hubby are hard. Do you stay in the house or do you go somewhere else when the storm hits. Praying for you that all will be ok.
Hugs,
Kris
Prayers for you and Plum Cottage!
I've packed for mandatory evacuation, we should know by 5 p.m. if we're made to. Hope we're not spending a night in the car on the road in bumper to bumper traffic.
Love to you,
Dewena
Good Afternoon Lorraine, Oh I do hope the hurricane passes you by and heads out to sea.
I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this situation all on your own. I just wanted to say, that you are in my prayers and that I am thinking about you.
Take good care of yourself.
With warmest wishes.
Daphne
Plum Cottage looks all snug and protected. I do love those hearts you husband created on the plywood protectors. I pray the storm veers safely out to sea; be safe dear friend.
All the hearts in the boards your husband made, so sweet. I hope all these hearts will save you from a hurricane. I know you have terrible hurricanes in your area, nevertheless it sounds so unreal to me we don´t have this kind of natural disaster.
Dear Lorraine,
You are in my thoughts and prayers as you prepare for this. I am watching the news as I write this and they are saying you should evacuate. I hope that you heed these warnings and find a shelter. God bless you and also bless Plum Cottage. xx Karen
Rainey, I am so sorry about the hurricane, I pray you come through this with no damage. The hearts on the plywood coverings move me to tears, Mark was such a sweet, dear man. I cannot imagine how you handled all this preparation by yourself, so much work. I hate storms and dislike being home alone with them, too, but I know God is always with us. I'm sending hugs and love. And prayers!
I tried to comment on your last post - to say I was glad you asked for help and was sorry about all the energy you're having to expand.
I was VERY interested in THIS post and glad to see you're "snug as a bug in a rug". Praying for your safety and a sense of peace as you wait out the storm. Thanks for taking these photos and passing them on!
The hearts by Mark, they will be with you, and although down here we are getting a lot of coverage on our TV, with dire predictions and speed and probable path, I am hoping so much Matthew goes out to sea and you stay safe. I am glad you have some clear windows and can look at the sky and your beautiful garden. Hugs and love.XXX
I will be praying for your safety and for your sweet gorgeous Plum cottage xo
I've been thinking about you as the storm approaches, and hoping that you and your little cottage are ok. Looks like you batted down the hatches as well as can be 😀 Stay safe FlowerLady, I'll be thinking about you!
So scary, Lorraine...I will pray that you stay safe! I'm glad you had those men from church come over and help you put the boards over the windows.
I like the addition of the little hearts and now they will forever remind you of his love for you.How sweet is that!
Thinking and praying for you! Take care and I hope both you and your cottage come thru okay. Love, Kit
Dearest friend,
You are on my heart, and will be praying and sending blessings to you to hold fast your prayers. Please keep us posted and I'm sure all of us will be checking on you.
May the Lord keep you, and the kitties safe, and without harm.

I'm also thinking about you at this time and hoping all will be well with you. Do you have somewhere to go if the need arises? I keep thinking of all the "what ifs" along with you. Do be safe and our prayers are with you.
Lorraine, I am keeping you close in my thoughts, hoping the hurricane spins itself away from you... I love you are still protected by your dear husband's hands... those boards, with their beautiful hearts cut into them must give you such joy. Safely tucked inside, with hearts all around to protect you.
Thinking of you,
jillayne
Now that you are all boarded up, we are all praying that Matthew stays far to the east of the coastline! Stay safe and dry! Bless You, Cindy xo
I hate to think about you having to board up. Hopefully the storm will veer back out to sea. These storms are getting more and more powerful. Stay safe.
xx, Carol
Praying hard for you --and others in that storm's path... God Bless You---and the scripture passage you quoted is perfect at a time like this...
Hugs,
Betsy
