Chase the Lion ~ book review

Good morning Folks ~ I just finished a book that I want to share with you.

“Chase The Lion ~ If Your Dream Doesn't Scare You, It's Too Small” ~ by Mark Batterson

What an inspiring book this was to read right while I was preparing for Hurricane Matthew. Was I scared? I most certainly was.  This was my first hurricane without my dear husband by my side. We were always a team, and getting ready for a possible big hit from this storm by myself and the fear of it was almost overwhelming. But I did it with God right by my side. Four young men boarded up my little cottage, and Miss Tork, my feline companion, and I stayed right here.

This was just one of a few 500-lb lions for me to face in my life. My faith is in Jesus, and He kept this storm off shore, for that I am very thankful.

Another 500-lb lion that I face every single day is living my life as a widow. When you lose the love of your life after being together for a long time, 43 years for us, your life is drastically changed. There are challenges you never had to face alone, and part of you is missing.

The one thing that keeps me going is knowing God is taking care of me. He is my strength when I am weak. He is with me every step of this journey and He has great things in store for me. He works all things out for good.

There are so many wonderful examples in this book about people facing obstacles in their lives and overcoming them, moving on to greater experiences, in business, health, and living life. This was an encouraging and uplifting book to read.

Some quotes from this book that have inspired me are below:

"Make each day your masterpiece."

"God is bigger than any giant we face."

"When we operate in faith, we aren't risking our reputation. We're risking God's reputation! And God can handle Himself just fine."

"Sometimes you have to take a stand by taking a step."

"The hardest part of any dream journey is starting. You can't finish what you don't start."

"The Enemy comes to steal your joy, kill your dreams, and destroy your life. Jesus came that you might have life and have it more abundantly."

"Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world."

"Don't accumulate possesions; accumulate experiences."

"Don't settle for good. Seek God. And when you do, don't be surprised when God does immeasurably more than all you can ask or imagine!"

------

There’s much more to read in this book. It has really inspired me to keep trusting in God, to take those steps of faith in my journey, no matter what I may face. All for God’s glory, and it will be worth it in the end.

I received this book from Blogging for Books, for reading and giving my honest review of it.

Are you facing any 500-lb lions?

Ask God for help.

Take that first step and be ready for an adventure.

Sincerely ~ FlowerLady

I love it! What great timing for me since I am indeed facing a lion and need the reminder I can look him in the eye and say "God's got my back...so back off!"

Hugs to you,
Dee

I love inspirational books and this one sounds wonderful, Lorraine! Love all the quotes you shared and that it helped you face the fear of dealing with that nasty storm all alone. I firmly believe that we are never alone, that we have many guiding us, including Angels, loved ones passed on, and of course, the Almighty. I don't think I could have made it through life without my firm belief in divine guidance and protection. Right now I am worried about my daughter and her baby about to be born. There have been so many difficulties......but I am giving it over to God now. I am praying all goes well. I think I need that book! Sending hugs xo Karen

Sometimes so difficult
but I have made it....

This sounds like a very good book. Glad you were ok with Hurricane Matthew. It must be so very hard to have all these firsts to do alone without your sweet hubby. You are an inspiration to others that have lost their soul mates that proves life can go on with God in your corner. So happy you have your faith to keep you strong through the rough days without your hubby. Wishing you a good weekend.
Hugs,
Kris

Lorraine, I enjoyed reading this - the quotes especially. I can't imagine what it's like to lose your mate after 43 years! We do all face big lions and trusting God helps every day.

What an inspirational book you've shared with us, Lorraine. This journey of widowhood leaves us without our Rock and Knight in Shining Armor, but thankfully, we have Our Lord to carry us along the way.
