I did it!

Hi Folks ~ I hope you all had nice days this past weekend. We are having lovely weather here in s.e. FL.

Well, as most of you know, I am NOT a computer geek.  That was part of my husband’s personality, a part of him I miss when something comes up with my computer and scares me. Last year I lost Window’s Live Writer as they did away with it.  I then heard about Open Live Writer, but was ‘afraid’ to download it and get started using it.  Finally after having to deal with posting with blogger again, I decided this morning on a whim to go to the website, download and see if I could set it up, and I did. YIPPEE!

DH had told me about WLW several years ago and I loved it.  It is so nice to work off line, then upload your post. I’ve been having troubles with posting via blogger, too much space between photos, and other glitches that have made posting a chore instead of a joy.

For any of you who might want to try this program, here is the link.

Open Live Writer.

Thank you all for your kind comments as to the house painting project. I heard a saying last night watching a movie on you-tube. “Many hands make light the work.” That was oh so true with all those who came to help on the 5th. It is a burden off my shoulders and I am very thankful for the love and caring shown by my church family.

Walking around my little ‘Plum Cottage’, seeing it’s wonderful color just makes me smile.  The color came about as a mixture of several purple hued samples bought at HD, which I didn’t really like for house color, and what you see now is the result of my color mixing.  I painted a couple of coats of it onto a painting stick and took that to HD, handed it to the guy, he put the painted end under his little computerized paint  color reader, got a 5 gal. bucket of paint, put it under the  color dispensers, clicked a button and after they were all put in, it was mixed up and voila there was my beautiful color just waiting to be painted with.

I’ve started painting different accent pieces a beautiful aqua color, given to me by my dear friend Ramona.  The color didn’t work for the project she had in mind, so she asked me if I wanted it and of course, I said yes.  The color is great with the plum color.

These two aluminum pieces below, we found curbside, who knows how long ago. They are parts of old screen doors and were in my ‘inherited’ stash of ‘stuff’ to work with.

Saturday I started paint a Victorian wire bench that we bought many, many years ago at a local flea market, for $10. It is made of galvanized wire, very sturdy. Today I plan/hope to finish the bench. Not exactly sure where this will go just yet, but here it is in it’s being painted stage.(I ‘need’ to pressure wash my gates!)

I am really happy with this Open Live Writer program. It is just like using the old WLW. I am happy I got brave and downloaded it. That is a major accomplishment for me.

It is my ‘birthday week’ as DH called it and he would call me ‘birthday girl’ too. My 67th bday is the first day of spring.  DH and I met 50 years ago on that day. He is celebrating his 4th spring in heaven where all is beauteous and joyful. Better than we can even imagine, and it’s only going to get better.

Happy Spring to all of you!

Love, hugs & prayers ~ FlowerLady

That bench is fabulous. I love it! All your decorative pieces painted in the aqua color look so pretty. Your home looks just how I imagine a Florida cottage should look. Beautiful colors. Hugs, Nancy

I like your Victorian wire bench, quite unusual and it will be happy to have a new coat of paint, to rest near your plum cottage.

Our birthdays are so close - mine is the 19th - I was supposed to be a st Patrick's day baby but I was late. I can't wait to see where you put the bench - I feel like when you have a garden you love there are so many opportunities for seating in various vantage points!

I never would have thought of that teal / turquoise color as an accent to the plum but it is perfect ! I love the way you've used the scree door trim and the new bench is going to look wonderful wherever you place it.

Happy birthday and anniversary of the day you and your beloved met. You can't help but celebrate his life well -lived and well-loved with so many reminders in and around Plum Cottage. Blessings to you today.

You're way ahead of me, when it comes to computer skills, Rainey. I don't even have any idea what you are talking about, I'm so computer illiterate. Love, love, love that bench! I have a thing for those French wire pieces. It's so neat that you have your very own plum color. We do that a lot too. Fun, isn't it?

Hugs
Jane

When you first said you were going to paint the cottage plum I was not sure about it, but I love it now and the aqua accents just make it more prettier. Happy Birthday and Many More.

Congrats! I think I will look into using Open Liver Writer too and see if I find it any easier than posting in blogger.

Happy early Birthday! I must say, I love the aqua accents. They are gorgeous. I have problems with blogger too at times, it drives me nuts! I looked into changing mine over to wordpress but it looks like a lot of work for someone with a hobby blog. I grit my teeth with blogger and try my best, as I am pretty technologically challenged too :-)

Have a great day FlowerLady!

A plum colored cottage - I love it! You might need to rename your blog. ;-) Those iron pieces you found plus the wire bench are lovely. I would love to have pieces like that for my garden and patio area. I'm always on the lookout at thrift stores, etc. Happy birthday week to you! I'm sure it will be bittersweet.

That bench is so beautifully unique - and I love ALL the turquoise accents.

I've never tried those "writers". Not sure why, but I've never had trouble with just plain old blogger. (I probably shouldn't write that for fear I'll start to have challenges!)

I'm glad to hear you're all set up in a program that works for you! Enjoy.

That is a great bench and the aqua does look good against it. And the best thing is that you used paint you already had for both. I love that.

I haven't heard of open live writer. Is it a free program? There are times i think of a blog post but don't want to pull the internet cord to write it.

I love the contrast of colors, the painted metal items against the house, so pretty. i'm a big chicken when it comes to trying anything new with the computer too. I checked the site out, but right now I'm not having any trouble with blogger so I'll leave well enough alone. Have a Happy birthday week!

I love your color combinations! Aqua is one of my favorite colors! Thanks for the computer tips, sometimes I do find blogger makes me pull my hair out! Ha! Happy Birthday! It's also my birthday month! Spring is such a lovely time of year! We try to get to Florida every year just to get a little relief from all the Winter White up north here in Minnesota! This year we had more brown than white!
Have a lovely week! ~ Diane

I am so happy that you were able to get that program to work for you.I know the feeling of accomplishment when we can solve some of these problems ourselves. When a spouse leaves our side we are forced to do things way out of our comfort zone, but the growing experience is good even when it's painful.
Way to go girl!

I have a steel mesh bench swing that needs painting, and seeing yours all fresh and bright inspires me to think that maybe I will do mine this month - the rain is supposed to end tomorrow, and then I'll be ready to go. :-)
