Hobbling along & rose babies came

Hi Folks ~ Hope you are all doing well this second week of February which is also Valentine's week. It is cold here and will be all week. Of course, cold for us in s.e. FL is not the same for those of you up north. :-)

The cold is NOT helping my pulled muscle/pinched whatever in my back left side.  It started yesterday afternoon.  I figured out this morning what the cause was, and it's from moving a really heavy flower pot the other day. I've done this before and it takes a few days to work itself out. I've used heat, arnica gel and also taken Ibuprofen to sleep and once today. I'm NOT as young as I used to be and need to be more careful with heavy things.

My rose order came today, yay, both orders.

They really do a GREAT job of boxing them up.  They use heavy duty copper staples from the outside to staple pots to the box to keep them from moving around. There is rolled up paper in the pot, wet, put in there to keep the soil in, then put into a plastic bag and tied. You can see the huge staples along the bottom of the box.

Two were in one box,

six in the other.

I got excited seeing the purple look stems of the one rose, because that is the Bayse's purple rose. Deep purple stem, isn't that something? I noticed that several of these have LOTS of thorns. YIKES!!!

Here they are  unboxed ready to grow and bloom in their new home.

I carried them two at a time, slowly, back to where they will get tomorrow's sun, if we get any.

Now I'm ready to take an ibuprofen and get horizontal. I have a couple of books of 'cat' stories so will start reading one of them.

Happy Valentine's week.

Oh what fun to receive so many roses in the mail. I am like you, it is like being a kid at Christmas. I bought two packages of Oriental lilies a few days ago and felt a similar excitement. Now do not over do when you plant. We are not getting any younger :)

Ooh! New roses. Antique Rose Emporium was one of the companies that most impressed me with their packaging. It's always a relief when plants are packaged that well. Enjoy!

Yes, rest, too. You do so much. ♥

Take care, maybe try lying flat, with a high pillow under your knees to take the pressure off the sciatic nerve. Great packing, they will be adding more beauty to your garden,

Those are very healthy looking roses that you received. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of them blooming in your garden.

I hope that your side gets to feeling better very soon.

Take care.

Your new roses look so healthy, they are growing already and have leaves. They look much better than mine, only bare stems but that's the difference of our climate. Hope your back is recovering very soon, I know about it, because I like doing all by myself but indeed, we are getting older.... Take care.

My daughter recently told me I should quit doing things I know I shouldn't be doing! She is right, that's when we get ourselves in trouble.

Maybe you should invest in those movable plant things with rollers for the heavy ones. Hope you rest up and heal quickly.

Looking at those little roses has got me interested in roses again, RRD or not.

Beautiful plants! So happy that I'll get to watch them grow right along with you, through your posts.
Take it easy, let that problem resolve itself. I hurt my shoulder the other day moving a large pot on the hand truck. Guess what? The 60's aren't like the 40's...ugh! I used to be able to do everything! _Janice

Ha ha lol sure hope your back feels better real soon... I would suggest arnica and looks like you already know about that. Its a very pretty sunny day here although cold. So nice to get new roses for the garden and it looks like this company takes great care in shipping, too. Oh, those heavy pots.....I am always trying to find ways to move them without breaking my back. Pivot and slide are my favorite techniques. Old rugs and tarps are great for sliding :) I hope your back feels better soon. Please take good care and don't over-do. Hugs xo Karen

Ah yes, Basye's Purple has a lot of thorns. Kind of funny when you consider that Basye was going for thornless disease resistant roses. The color of the flowers is worth it though. Those are some big beautiful mail order roses!

I hope your back feels better soon. Please be careful.

Do be good to yourself, Rainey, and rest your back. I can feel your excitement over the roses. It's nice to get something in the mail, or delivered to our door that makes us smile and brings happiness. You have such a green thumb, I know the roses will do very well and bring hours of pleasure. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Nancy

New roses, this is exciting ! I love roses and with your green thumb you will be showing us pictures of the beautiful blooms soon.

Take good care of yourself. I seem to injure myself all the time now from lifting and moving heavy items. Doing things I never thought twice about a few years ago causes injuries that take a long time to heal. It is very smart of you to take your Ibuprofen and rest. Reading cat stories sounds like a very pleasant way to relax and heal.

Do hope your back is improving. Back issues are the worst, as I well know and you are right sometimes it just takes time for them to work through. Its difficult to be patient however when garden chores are calling. How exciting to get your lovely new roses in the mail - nothing better. Look forward to seeing their progress!
Enjoy!

Hello, FL! Look at all those gorgeous new roses! What an exciting postal delivery :) They look great, so healthy. I know you'll love tending to them and sharing photos with us of their blooms. Can't wait! I'm so eager for spring to come. So much to do here on the farm. Yesterday I put some old daffodil bulbs in the ground that I never got planted last fall. They looked okay. Getting buckets of rain this morning. Stay warm, and tend to that achy back.

I always find new and creative ways to hurt my back. Last week, it was filling up a bird feeder. I mean, those things don't even weigh that much. This week, it was shaking a towel out to fold it. I swear.

I had no idea you could order rose babies on the Internet! Heading to Google now for sure :)
