What’s happening at Plum Cottage

Sunday I visited with my Mom and her husband Bill.  I’ve not seen my mother in years, and it was good to see her. As we grow older and after losing my dear husband things that happened in the past need to stay in the past, and we need to move forward.  This reunion was good for both of us. She’s 84. Bill will be 95 in Dec. and he is taking very good care of her. I’m the first born, have two younger sisters. During this visit one time when we were kissing/hugging, she called me “My baby.” Something she’s never said before and it really blessed my heart.

While there I admired two wooden bodied cranes in their garden bed, and later Bill told me to pick one to take home.  So, I did and it now graces my secret garden. I can see it whenever I’m at the sink doing dishes, getting water, or whatever, and I think of them and the good visit we had.

My sis-in-law took me out there, a little over 2 hours away, and dropped me off to visit my Mom while she visited friends that lived in the town. She and I had a good visit too and from.

This morning she and I were going to see the movie ‘War Room’, but I’m going to the dentist instead.  I have two teeth that are bothering me, and I’ll either have one or both pulled today. I ‘HATE’ going to the dentist, but have put it off long enough. The pain comes and goes, sometimes worse than others.

That’s it for now. My nerves are jittery to say the least.

Tuesday was mine and DH’s 46th anniversary. I didn’t fix a special dinner because I wasn’t feeling all that great, sore throat, coughing.  I just opened a can of Bush’s Baked Beans and fixed all beef no preservatives, no nitrates etc. hot dogs, made baked yucca fries and fixed a margarita using my first fresh key lime from my own little tree. Smile The fresh lime juice was wonderful. This was our favorite celebratory drink. I missed having him with me, but he’s in a much better place, cheering me on and one day we will be reunited.

Thank you for sharing your visit with your mom. You are right about letting things in the past stay there. I hate the dentist too and have put it off for far to long. Please take care of yourself.

So glad you and Momma had a good visit, wish we could have stayed and visited with you also but had things to do at home and we thought it would be good for you two to have a one on one visit. Love you much. Cheri

Moving forward -- always good.

"Greek and Roman myth tended to portray the dance of cranes as a love of joy and a celebration of life. The crane was usually considered to be a bird of Apollo, the sun god, who heralded in Spring and light. Throughout all of Asia, the crane has been a symbol of happiness and eternal youth. In Japanese, Chinese, and Korean tradition, cranes stand for good fortune and longevity."

Hope your visit to the dentist was as painless as he could make it.

I'm so glad you and your mom had such a nice visit, I agree with you sometimes it's best to leave things from the past where they belong, in the past. :)

I hate the dentist too, ugh, hope you are pain free soon.

Hugs,
Sandra

You and your Mom look good together. Upsets can happen in families and are difficult to get beyond. How nice to have the crane in your garden as a reminder of your visit.
Dentist--arrgh! Even an appointment for routine cleaning makes me unhappy.

Being able to make amends and live in forgiveness with our family members is a treasured gift. I'm so very happy to read that you and your mom had a sweet visit together. I love the crane and I know that will always hold dear memories for you. I hope you are feeling better and enjoy a special meal soon. Happy Anniversary! Many blessings to you for a wonderful weekend. You too look so similar. I'm thinking the good visit with your mom is a sign of real growth. It is always impressive to me to see things like this--that people can change, or can accept what can't be changed and "get on with it" anyway. 'Sign of your good heart, I think. :) Good for you. And to have the crane now to remind you of a sweet visit, is also a great thing.

'Hope the dentist visit went well. ♥

What a pretty view from your window and that crane is quite handsome. I am glad that you had a good visit with family :)

Hope that you feel better soon. That drink was probably good cold medicine :)

Glad you and your mom were able to mend your fences, Rainey. That's one less stress you will have in your life. I hate going to the dentist too, but force myself to go twice a year because it's easier to get let things taken care of (and less expensive in the long run), rather than have a big procedure done. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Jane

Happy Anniversary! And I am so glad your visit with your Mom went so well. I love yoru crane! I understand difficult relationships, and it is hard to take the step forward, but I was glad I had taken the step forward before my mother died. :) Have a great weekend! Love, Kit

So glad you and your Mom had a great visit. (I love your wooden crane.) Hope your dentist appointment went well. I hate the dentist, too. Maybe your bravery will inspire me to go...or not! :)

Happy anniversary! So great that you went and spent some time with your mom. You are right - the past needs to stay there and it is always best to move forward. I know it was a good visit and made you both very happy! I am flying to Denver to visit my birthday mom in Oct. I went last year with my son, but haven't been to see her by myself for years so I am a little apprehensive, but your post has made me feel better about it. We need to love and honor our parents while they are still with us. Thanks so much for this post and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hi Rainey
I am so very glad that you visited your mother and let your hearts heal. I have not spoken to my sister since the day my dad died and I am sure that I never will. Bill's gift was a lovely gesture. You had a good day.

Happy Sunday
xx, Carol

I hope the dentist visit went better than expected - and it's good to have it behind you. Very kind of Bill to gift you a crane and you have the perfect spot for it. It must have blessed your mother to have you visit again - time to move on and look ahead.

Hi Lorraine. I'm glad you had time with your mom and that it was an uplifting visit. It was a nice gesture for Bill to give you a crane, and I like that you can see it from your kitchen window, which looks charming by the way. I applaud you for celebrating your wedding anniversary, albeit alone. I'm sure it was an emotional evening for you. God bless you, and I hope your dental visit went okay. Thanks for leaving all those sweet comments on my blog. Hugs, Nancy

Oh, that drink looks yummy, and with your very own lime too! I think good baked beans and a high quality hot dog is a very fine meal. Sometimes a good hotdog is exactly what you want. Glad you got to visit with your mom. Family ties, even tough ones, are so important. We must live and forgive, and let pains go if we can. Happy anniversary to you and your man :) He was celebrating in heaven. I know you are STILL the best gift God ever gave him.

Im so very glad your tooth problem is better...when your teeth hurt everything hurts. I am also glad you reunited with your mom. Forgiveness is always a good thing and so very healing of our own hearts.

I know all about difficult parent/child relationships. I'm thankful the Lord has let us all live long enough so that healing has taken place, finally . . . so great you could have that with your mom while she's still here.
Love that you had a celebratory anniversary drink.

What a sweet post! It can be very hard to put things in the past, very hard. It's important we try though :) Your celebratory dinner sounded yummy, especially the margarita with fresh lime juice. Margaritas are a celebratory drink favorite in our house too :)

I hope you get to feeling better!
