It’s a new day

Good morning Friends ~ Thank you once again for all of your encouraging words, your prayers, emails, comments. God uses them all in strengthening me to continue on each day in this new journey and I am ever thankful. I also read uplifting books, articles and see movies that I just happen to come across that speak to my heart and soul.

From our widow’s group every month we get a calendar with each lady’s name listed on a day of the month, and we are to remember them in prayer on that day.  It’s a wonderful thing and I’m working on taking photos at the meetings so that we can put names and photos together. Today happens to be my ‘day’ for prayer, and it is nice to know the ladies are praying for me today.  Prayer works wonders.

Yesterday was ‘sr. citizens’ day at both Good Will and Salvation Army thrift stores, so I decided to take a little jaunt to both, I needed to get out to do something different.  I got rid of some books and a bag of stuff also, making my load lighter.

At GW I got two nice shirts, and two lounge/gowns by Cherokee for $10.47. All washed and hung out to dry yesterday in our beautiful weather, which dried quickly. GW discount 25%.

At SA, I bought 2 - 100 % cotton pillow cases,  material for needlework ideas, and a strand of freshwater pearls.  When I saw the strand as a necklace in the case my heart started beating faster, they just grabbed my eye. These are small ones, not perfectly shaped, that fact and their luster gave them away. I asked to see them and the price. $1.99, but with discount $1. There are 276 of these little gems. Spent $6.45, total. A wonderful velvet type material, a sheer fabric with stars, and a beautiful black patterned satin type material. SA discount 50%.

Isn’t this beautiful???

This heart was already a work in progress and set aside, after making the heart with peach roses the day before, I decided to work on this piece again. I added more French knot flowers, tiny purple beads and crocheted the beaded edging.  Actually I even crocheted another beaded edging, but then went back to the first one.  This morning I am crocheting a single crochet row with the purple thread.  I may add some of the fresh water pearls to this, I’ve not decided yet.

You can see the tiny beads used in the circles in this photo below.

Here’s the other edging I crocheted/beaded.

I didn’t like how it looked with the piece after all, so will save it for another piece.

Here’s the heart created the day before.  I love how it turned out. Again I crocheted another beaded edging, and after sewing it on, added Czech crystals to finish it off.

As I was creating the above pieces, I felt my husband and his love and support through the years and even now. I had on peaceful, lovely music, and hummed along at times, which is something he always enjoyed hearing. He took this photo of me below in 2010, in my little space where my computer is and where I create.

Well, it’s time for some breakfast and to get started on the days’ doings.

Love and hugs to all of you ~ FlowerLady

Dear Lorraine, I am glad for you that you got beautiful fabrics and the sweetwater pearls at the thrift stores for such a great price. Recycling materials and goods that others don't want or need anymore is such a good thing to do. I haven't been in a thrift store for ages and you inspired me to go, again. Your handcrafted hearts are stunning. It amazes me how much work and love you put into those!
Happy Halloween!

Good Morning Lorraine...Buying something new always seems to be uplifting, and your freshwater pearls look beautiful. You can find some really nice things at thrift stores. I often go in search of crystal and china pieces . . . both are my weaknesses.

I love the idea of the calendar and having a prayer day for each of the women in your group. It sounds like a wonderful group of ladies, and I'm so glad you found them. No one can understand better than them what you're feeling and going through. That photo of you in your cozy work area is priceless!

What a beautiful view out your window....& the photo of you at your work station is quite charming.

Glad your eyes fell on those pearls. Things like that generally don't go unnoticed by staff in OUR stores up here!

I like reading about the ways you soothe yourself - music, etc. Said a prayer for you as I read - that God will continue to comfort in times of sadness and provide ALL your needs.

Goodwill, Thrift, or down here " Op Shops" can be and are very exciting places to visit. Goodies to us, discarded by another, your pieces using some of the new fabric and pearls are sooo beautiful. Lovely pic from your window, soothing and peaceful in itself. I hope your "day" was uplifting with prayers from others all helping to heal and strengthen your heart. To me, it seems super strong always, just a little fragile at some moments, as we all have them at some time. Fond greetings, Jean.

I am a big fan of the thrift stores and buy most of my clothing there (my husband has recently started doing the same) I like the idea of putting a face to the name when you are praying. Love, love the photo of you sewing. Praying that the Lord would continue to comfort your heart

Rainey, I've been absent for far too long, but not a day goes by I don't think of you. I spend day after day emailing other thyroid patients and learning what I can about the med changes and doctor issues. To tell you the truth, I am sick of thinking about my sick self, lol.

I was sorry to hear you had a sorrowful time; I can only imagine the depth of your grief. I love the pictures Mark took of you in your work space, they are so precious.

I will be sending an email soon, dear friend. Hugs, Karen

Good morning Lorraine,
Those fresh water pearls are exquisite, and also the black bag they came in. When we go to car boot sales, it's very often the stuff that people just pass by that on closer inspection holds such beauty when seen close up. I don't know how you find the patience to sew such intricate work, but I must say that the results are amazing. Thanks for showing your personal space, and the photo that your husband took of you. Such a special space. Have a good and peaceful weekend.

You really got some neat stuff! There are too many people combing the thrift shops in our area -- owners of antique shops or people who resell on eBay -- so I find my treasures at garage sales. Those pearls were an amazing find. I have a long pendant necklace with lavender stones in the chain and the pendant that I think is the real deal, looks like silver and very intricate. I hardly ever wear jewelry but you have made me think about making it into something I will use every day. Maybe I should have it appraised first though. It was in a tub of costume jewelry at a garage sale and everything was only a quarter.

You do such beautiful work!

I'm glad you are feeling better today. I think crying is so therapeutic for us. Just think...the Lord has now collected those sweet tears in His bottle. I believe He felt each and every one of them.
Your handwork is so beautiful.I also find it so relaxing to create in all the various ways I enjoy. I can't believe the deal on those beautiful little pearls! How wonderful!
Love & Prayers for you...

Dear Lorraine These hearts reflect your own beautiful heart and your garden full of roses.
Thank you for your care and kindness over losing my sweet Andrea - you are one who truly knows the sorrow but there has been such an amazing learning time in all of this for which I am ever grateful to her for.
Love and hugs,
