Well, I finally finished this latest piece a little while ago. I started it on the 22 June, 4 different days. It took approximately 8 hours. I try to keep track of my time while sitting here and write it in a little book.
I really enjoyed working on this, and for some reason it made me feel like crying. DH said it was pretty, maybe that’s it. The prettiness of it. I love hearts and I love flowers.
The flowers are all in the purple family.
They are Winter Iris, Petunias, Violets, Japanese Anemone, Penstemon and Periwinkles.
This will be for sale, I just don’t know yet if I will sell it as is, or try to find a frame for it. People may not like what I would frame it in. It can be matted and framed, sewn to a pillow or piece of clothing, depending on the person.
It is approximately 4 1/4” x 4 1/4” square.
The fabric the embroidery is on is more of a soft pale camel color not the gray that is shown here. I need to take a picture in better lighting.
Now I can think about what to do next. More of this crazy heart theme with flowers no doubt.
Have a wonderful holiday tomorrow. We did have some sunshine today. More rain is expected. We have had LOTS but I am NOT complaining.
I see why you like this one. The colors are among my favorites. We are quite dry here currently (though not as bad as Texas, Kansas, etc.)
ReplyDeleteI first thought 'a broken heart'. It is a beautiful piece. It has a Victorian feel to it and it is a bit sad, but not a bad sad.

ReplyDeleteI haven't been ignoring your blog on purpose and figured out the problem. I read blogs as they are updated on my dashboard, but for some reason your blog was there. It only updates on the side bar of my main blog page soooo I wasn't seeing that you had updates. Now I've fixed the problem and will be back more often!!

You pour so much of your heart into your work, it is so lovely. I, too, love to embroider, but I never attempted true artwork like you do, I always just followed the lines of the person who made the kit. Your work is so personal and so exquisite. I love the colors you have chosen. Sometimes things make me sad too. My biggest problem would be parting with the piece after it is done.

ReplyDeleteLovely, i like embroideries too, however it seems that it is already in my brain's archive. I also had a couple of years spent voraciously on cross-stitching. There are times also when i love sewing, but now my pre-occupation is on photography. Happy working! I can imitate your work, haha!

ReplyDeleteVery pretty piece. I especially like the little blue round flowers but the entire composition is lovely. I always think of my late Grandma when I see embroidery of any kind. She had her mark on just about every pillowcase, scarf, napkin, you name it; if it was fabric she had embroidered something on it. She's the one who taught me although I haven't done it in years.
All this rain has been an utter blessing. It is our official rainy season and the earth is rejoicing.

ReplyDeleteI love it! The lines, and the different sizes of the spaces, and all the different flowers are so beautiful! I remember embroidering when I was in my 20s, but I didn't keep up with it. I do still have the sack with the dish towels in it I did not do because I found out you have to hem them, and I didn't know how to hem them. I wonder if I'll ever get them out and do them.
