December happenings at Plum Cottage

Hi Folks ~ I hope things are going well as you ready your homes for the holidays. I finished my little tree, but still have the Nativity to set up.

Here’s my tree with the ceiling light on.

Some ornaments

Mr. & Mrs. Snowman, made by a friend in an ornie swap many years ago.

The little porcelain ballerina was made by my dear husband’s mother.

The red crocheted heart was made by me.

This angel that I’m using for the tree topper was also made for an ornie swap. This friend has since passed away.

Mr. & Mrs. Lion were the last ornaments give to us by my husband’s mother. She gave the kids one every year as they were growing up, then as each child became a married couple, she continued to give one to each couple. This year she happened to give each couple ‘animal couples’.

I have been working on beading Christmas presents. I am loving the process with each one. An idea pops into my head and then I go with it. I will show them after the holidays. I am inspired to get my sales tax # and re-open my Etsy shop.

Here are the latest color of beads used on two of the pieces.

Something not so Christmasy has happened. I’ve been having pain in upper & lower jaws, left side of my mouth. I knew there was a tooth that needed to come out up top, but didn’t know what was causing the pain on the bottom, back tooth.

The pain was awful the past couple of days, I made an appt. yesterday afternoon and got in this morning. I had the top tooth pulled, there was no saving it.  The bottom problem is that my very back tooth is loose, so I made an appt. to have it pulled next Thursday. I could have had them both pulled today, but I just wasn’t up for that. Sad smile

This is how I looked after I got home, shot up with Novocaine. Left side is turned down and totally numb, left nostril also numbed and numbed up to my eyelid. That’s all gone now, and I’m glad of that.  I was given a prescription for Vicadin in case I needed it, but I opted not to use it.  I bought Aleve instead. I don’t like taking meds at all, but ibuprophen didn’t do so good with tooth pain and the dentist recommended Aleve.

Not my best selfie.

The past couple of weeks I have been googling about healing receding gums, and remineralizing teeth. Read about Bentonite clay and ended up buying some Redmond Earthpaste toothpaste for a healthier mouth, with only natural ingredients.  Lots of great reviews. Bentonite clay draw toxins out of our systems, and our mouths are full of unhealthy things. Bentonite clay is good for a lot of uses. I also ordered vitamin supplements that are great for teeth, and good health in general and ended up ordering, a calcium, mag and D complex, Ester-C with citrus bioflavonoids, zinc pincolinate and CoQ10 with BioPerine. While reading all of the reviews on each supplement, I read that zinc cleared up acne. Well, while I don’t like to talk about it, since menopause, I’ve been dealing with adult acne. I never had any acne as a teen except for that once-a-month spot that would pop up. As we age, zinc becomes depleted in our systems, so maybe that’s the cause of my acne. Reading that zinc clears acne has me excited to see if it will work for me. All four of these supplements are great for dental health. So if any of you are having problems, you might want to check these out for yourselves.

Ok, that’s it. I’m starting to get sleepy, 5:47 p.m. I took an Aleve and that should be good the whole night through. I’ve not slept good for the past few nights, this morning I got up around 3:45 and put some oil of cloves on my two painful areas and just stayed up. That oil is awful to taste, but works great for numbing.

Hope you are all well and enjoying each day. Tomorrow makes 4 years since my sweetie went to be with Jesus. I miss him every single day, but knowing where he is gives me peace.  We will be reunited one day, until then, may I age gracefully and gratefully.

Happy Christmas holidays ~ FlowerLady

Hoping your tree is bringing you many happy memories, Rainey. Sorry about the teeth problems. My husband uses a combination of coconut oil, clove oil and turmeric that he uses in oil pulling that has really helped him. And his teeth are getting really white with it too. You're wise not to use the Vicodin if you don't need to, I hear it can become addictive very quickly. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Hugs
Jane

We have just started putting up our trees. Your tree looks really great. It is fun to have ornaments to remind you of Christmas' past. I am hearing that you are very hot down there right now.

Dearest Rainey, already the 9th December here, and I think of you with love and care. he is always in your heart, with all the love and years you shared. Another tooth, I had to visit the oral surgeon a few months ago, and have 2 taken out, not the best day at all. If the socket is really painful after 2 days or so, go back, as it is so easy to get an infection there, they call it a "dry socket" Clove oil has great properties to reduce gum and tooth pain, maybe a dab on a cotton bud might help. Rest up, love your tree and the ornaments, and those blue beads, truly beautiful.

I hope you feel better! I just had a tooth break. So goes getting up in age! (This isn't my first). I've had acne when I began having hypothyroidism. The meds cleared that up to get my thyroid back to normal. Then, acne came back last month...and here I had an infected tooth root (the dentist thinks I had it for a couple of years but didn't feel it due to my nerve being dead) after a crown was put in. After a round of antibiotics and the root canal being done the acne went away. So the weirdest things can cause acne! Andrea

Thank you for the info on zinc. I've been reaching for my tea tree oil daily as opposed to monthly.
Hope the Aleve works well enough, Vicodin is such a double edged sword of a pain killer.

Oh dear. Tooth pain is so miserable. I had a round with that a month or so ago. I have an appointment with an oral surgeon next week. Seems it is finally time to have my wisdom teeth removed. Like you, I stay away from strong pain medications if at all possible.

Praying that tomorrow (actually today, since I am up so late) is filled with warm and comforting memories for you.

Hi Lorraine, Your tree is so pretty and I love that sweet angel. Sure hope you feel better with your tooth pain. A painful toothache can be the worst. Sounds like you did some great research on help aids. Thanks for sharing your info. My mother always said zinc was very good for us. Helps with winter colds too.
Wishing you happy memories today of your beloved. Sending hugs your way.
Prayers and get well wishes. xo

Hello sweet friend. I'm sorry you're having tooth problems and glad that you are taking positive action. I have to be diligent with oral care so I'll be looking closely at how you handle yours. Your tree is so pretty. I enjoyed seeing some of your ornaments up close and learning the stories behind them. That makes putting up the tree so meaningful, doesn't it? I'll be thinking and praying for you today. Hugs, Nancy

Your tree looks lovely..and I enjoyed seeing your special ornaments. I'm sorry you had to have a tooth pulled and that you'll also have to have another pulled. One of my biggest fears is going to the dentist, so that would be a nightmare for me. I don't blame you for not wanting to take the Vicodin - it is so addictive. I see another person commented about doing the oil pulling with coconut oil. I tried that for several months and didn't see any positive results. I've heard from others that it's worked for them though. You might want to try it. I like her idea of putting turmeric in the coconut oil, too. I'll have to look up that Redmond Earthpaste. I've been using a "natural" toothpaste from Trader Joes, but it still has a couple of questionable ingredients in it. As for supplements, I always take calcium & magnesium, vitamin d and vitamin c, so I'm all good on those. My 26-year old son is taking zinc right now for his acne. I'm in menopause (I'm 54) and never get acne. Do you eat a lot of dairy? That can cause flare-ups of adult acne. Just a thought.

Today is the four-year anniversary of your dear husband's passing...I am so sorry. I know how tough anniversary dates are. Extra blessings and hugs to you today, Rainey.

Love seeing all your sweet and sentimental ornaments on your pretty tree. So many memories.....as we grow older we collect quite a few, don't we? I'll be thinking of you as you commemorate this sad anniversary, my dear. So glad that you are taking care of your health. I am interested in the supplements, especially the zinc. Seems as I am aging my skin needs something a little extra these days. I'm glad to hear you will be starting your Etsy shop again. I love your beautiful beaded hearts <3. Be extra good to yourself. Sending hugs and blessings xo Karen

Thanks for the interesting information about how to keep our teeth healthy. I always enjoy it when you write about natural products and remedies and have tried many with great results. I'm going to look for the Redmond Earthpaste. I hope your teeth are feeling better!

Your Christmas tree looks beautiful!

Beautiful decorations.

I can empathize with your dental problems. I just spent 2.5 hours in the chair.
One crown and one supposed to be extraction. The extraction failed after breaking off in small pieces, repeated grinding and finally just sealing it with medicine and saying it "should" be fine. Watch for infection....then would require an oral surgeon. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I will for you!

Your tree is so pretty. I love the ornies you have...such great memories brought to mind by them. Sorry about your teeth. I have all mine pulled about 4 years ago. The dentist suggested a course to save them that would have cost thousands and only added about 5 years to their life. Out they came. I had a tremendous fear of dental pain and have never regretted the decision..but that is just me.
Merry Christmas.
xx, Carol

Oh, Lorraine, right there with you! I had a root canal. I would rather have had it pulled, but it was under a crown that was part of a bridge, and so that would've meant three teeth in a row missing. I guess I got an expensive Christmas present as it cost $900 and three visits in the chair. Hang in there... Hugs xoxoxo

Hello, dear FL -- so sorry about your awful tooth pain!! I'm rather glad you can just have them pulled. I had a crown and I had a root canal, and both procedures were simply awful. And that's good to read about all those excellent supplements. I hope the zinc does work for you.We do need healthier teeth! I really like your word there about aging gratefully and gracefully! May we all do that. Merry Christmas, dear friend!
