Puttering

Good morning Folks ~ Here it is Tuesday morning. For the time being, I no longer have a job.  My last day of work was the 18th. This sure takes time getting used to, but I am thankful for this time to reflect, recuperate (from cold and ribs), and to putter. (I’ll let you know ‘if’ I hear from the lady who took my name and number for possible two days of work a week.) For now I am enjoying being home.

Thanks again for all of your well-wishes and prayers as to the cold and ribs. Cough is just about gone, and the ribs are doing better. I was out doing some ‘light’ stuff yesterday morning and my rib cage let me know when it was time to stop, and I did.

My friends who gave me the cement planters came over here after they got off work on Saturday and John unloaded the planters from my van. (He didn’t like me having to cart them around.) He put the two larger ones in  place, and the third one I didn’t know where I wanted just yet, so it’s ‘waiting’.

I thought hoped I could move this myself with this dolly, HA! I have to wait for some man power, unless I think of a way to roll this over to the chosen spot.

I’ve been ‘puttering’ mostly in the mornings as it’s been hot and humid already down here in s.e. FL.

To putter =  occupy oneself in a desultory but pleasant manner, doing a number of small tasks or not concentrating on anything particular.

I’ve been moving potted plants to areas where they will get some sun and shade, as the sun moving overhead scorches and dries pots out. This will be easier for me to take care of also.

The next two photos are from inside the little porch, which is our main entry into cottage. This is looking south towards the front patios and 5 lane road out front.

This is looking north.  Still more tweaking to do on this side. The galvanized bucket catches the water from the a.c. I use the water to water plants. Smile  You’d be amazed at how much water comes out of the a.c.

I moved the little lion’s head fountain from the ‘cat-rium’ at the back of the cottage to this area and it is very comforting to say the least. Hearing the sound is so nice. You can see that I’ve got trim to replace around the a.c. yet. All in good time.  I don’t like the gray of the fountain, so that’s an upcoming project.

This is Maranta leucoreura, otherwise known as a prayer plant, as it closes up its’ leaves at night.  I love the colorings of this particular one. So right for Plum Cottage.

Both of the roses below are unknown as there were no name tags with them.

I guess that is it for now. I’ve got some errands to do this morning, and my stomach is letting me know it is hungry.

Have a great day wherever you are, whatever you are doing. Count your blessings.

If you don't find a paying job, think about looking for something you can do volunteer work. It is good to get out and around and not stay cooped up.

Those planters look like they fit in perfectly, Rainey! That apricot colored rose is a beauty. My word! You have a lot of plants! It must feel like you are in your own Garden of Eden. Hope the lady calls about the job!

Hellooo, Dolly! Do be careful and wait for some help with heavy objects so you don't suffer a set-back.

Mama used to grow Prayer Plant. I haven't had one in years. She grew 'walking iris' too, another I should seek out.

An air conditioner does wring lots of moisture out of indoor air, which is why indoor plants love to summer out-of-doors while we are keeping cool in comfort inside.

Love the Karstens quote at the end of your post.

Good Morning Lorraine, It's wonderful to have some time to putter. There are so many little things that need doing and puttering around gets them done. Your new stone planters are so nice. Like where you located them and can't wait to see what you plant in them. It is raining up our way today, and we so need it. Have a nice day!

I'm sorry you've been so sick and that you cracked your rib. I hope you heal quickly.

I'll pray that you get a job soon too.

Your garden looks amazing and having coffee on your porch would be a real treat :)

Take care of yourself!

rue

I have hurt my ribs a number of times and it is such a severe pain that you feel every time you move. You have been busy and the flowers are looking great.

Hello Lorraine
I've just caught up with a few blogs and didn't realise that you were unwell. We've both had this cold and cough virus and it just shows how when we are olde it takes longer to get fit again. My crafting took a knock as I just couldn't put my mind to anything but I hope like me that you are soon back to normal. Those planters do look heavy, better to wait for a man than to hurt yourself.

Good morning, Flower Lady! I had a nice online visit with you and your sweet surroundings. You have what I'd like to have: all sorts of flowers with lovely blooms.

Glad you're feeling better too.

I do like the way you have blocks under the planters, letting excess water run off, and way too heavy to move by yourself. Maybe this "not working" will give you time to smell your own roses, and in due course, the next one will happen on time. Rest in the heat, and look, 2 planters already with greenery in them, lovely settings either side of the doorway.

Well by your definition I am also a "putterer", I think I knew that already. I am glad you are feeling better, it's hard to get things done when you are not feeling well. It will be interesting to see what the Lord has for you in the future...you know he has a plan.

The new planters look great. I wish I could find some like that--what treasures!

It's neat to see your porch. It's so cute--cozy and tropical all at once. It seems like a wonderful place to putter.

Love all your plants!

Sounds like you are keeping busy at home and that's good. I used to have a Prayer plant, but mine was lot greener than yours.

Puttering is a very fine way to spend the day, and when I have a day to putter I feel as if I am on a vacation, actually, I feel better than when I am away on vacation.

I have one concrete planter the size of those planters and there is no way I could lift them , so please, wait for "man power " !'

I am so glad to read you're feeling better, just remember to take it easy so you can make a full recovery !

The roses you grow are so lovely. wish I could smell them thru the computer.

Puttering is so much fun! I remember a Rick Bragg essay in the back of a Southern Living where he compared puttering to piddling. I'd like to think that I putter but I know that sometimes I piddle.

Your garden fascinates me. Plum Cottage does too. So much character comes across in the pictures and love for your garden and home. and that's what it all should be about.
