Oh dear ~ paint colors :-)

Good morning folks ~ I hope you all have a lovely weekend. It’s supposed to be a gorgeous one for us.

I found the photos from when we first painted the buildings our plum color, and I think I may have to rethink these colors again. Good thing I found these pics.  We had this paint specially made up.  It looks a different color depending on the time of day. It can appear to be purple, brown or gray.  See how the pine trees behind the little building in the first picture go with the paint color, that’s exactly what we wanted.

I put the sample ‘Peruvian Violet’ next to each photo so that you can see it with the old paint job right after we did it. Which was done in 2004. It has really faded out since then.

This is the workshop as seen from the main garden.

The first picture below is with Purple Mauve on the top and Gypsy Magic on the bottom. Then we have the Peruvian Violet in the right hand photo.  I need to paint some of both colors on the caravan walls to see what I think when looking out the scullery window.

This is what I what I see looking out the scullery window, zoomed in.

Purple Mauve - right, Peruvian Violet - middle, and Gypsy Magic - left. You can also see a little of the PV painted on the top right piece just under the orange flashing. I think the PM and the GM are just a little too rosey for what I really want.

I decided to see how colors would look on the front/west side of caravan, and I got happy while painting. Smile It’s nice having these little paint samples.

I just wanted to see how the colors would work together and I’m excited about this project. I won’t be painting the Exotic Orchid, here on trim of windows and door, on the house.  That would be too much I think!  Of course, I better not say I won’t either.

Here is a video that has inspired me. I’ve enjoyed watching a LOT of these Central Texas Gardener videos. We grow quite a few of the same things.

Watching the video I found out that she is also a Pisces.

Well, that’s it for this week here at Plum Cottage.

I hope your Spring week is colorful and happy, or at least that you are seeing some bits of color and green which will make you happy.

Happy Spring ~ FlowerLady

P.S. Choosing paint colors is hard.

Hopefully I’m done thinking about this. At least I’ve not bought the paint yet. I’ll go out and look at the caravan again later this afternoon, early evening.

I remember when going to the paint store they had one color of purple or blue or yellow. Now I can get lost on all the shades they now have. I love the color that you originally painted the house.

Lorraine,
I thoroughly enjoyed that video!what a fun garden! I like all the purples, don't know which one you should choose, I guess you just have to do exactly what your doing, which is to paint large swatches on the wall and figure out which one looks best all day.;-)Have a blessed weekend!

Good Luck with your choice in the end :)

I recall painting swatches when I was trying to decide on an accent wall color in my dining room years ago. Every single one looked different from the paint store chip / it was hard!

Honestly, I have a feeling that no matter WHICH color you settle on, it will be charming! Really.

I tried to steal one of your photos of the caravan (which looks positively wonderful).....

The video was SO inspiring. I passed it on to a friend.

All of the colors are great. I think my favorite is the blue purple in the middle. Thanks for the heads up on the video. I look forward to reviewing them. I'm a pisces also.

Wow! So many pretty shades of purple. It would be hard to choose. I love the way your caravan is decorated and painted.

Thank you for showing us the video. I really enjoyed it. It inspired me. Aren't little surprise treasures in a garden fun? The art and Milagros she has are fascinating to me, and her plantings are amazing. I like to paint images of the Virgin of Guadalupe and have some in my flower beds, and on pots.

This year, I plan on planting a whole lot of perennial and annual wildflower seeds in my front yard plus my usual zinnias for the hummingbirds and blue bachelor button seeds, because I love their clear, blue color, especially contrasting with the hot color zinnias. Now if I can make my little squirrel family quit rooting around in my garden soil like furry tailed, little gray pigs, I will have it made. Sasquatch squirrel liked my tomatoes so well last year, he decided to bring his squirrel bride to the front yard, too. I am going to have to cover all of my newly seeded areas with chicken wire layed over it. Ugly, but effective until the seeds can grow big enough.
Now I will go back and study your post more closely.

I have really never considered painting anything purple before, much less accenting it with orange, but you might be changing my mind about that! You are a lot more adventuresome with color than I tend to be. Wish you could come to my house sometime and walk around with me, and tell me, "Do this! Do that!" I do love what you've done to your place.

Whatever you select, I'm sure you'll love it. I'll be going through this process in a few months...that's how long it will take for painting weather to arrive in Northern Indiana!

I'm enjoying all your paint testing. That's a good way to make sure you get the one you want. I like purple so I'm pretty happy with any of them.

I am AWFUL at choosing paint colors. . . rarely in the past would a room turn out as I had hoped. Those little sample containers of paint are life savers! :-)

This is eli by the way (long story).

Have a wonderful week, Rainey.

All the colors are fun and I'm sure whichever color you choose will be lovely. As you said, the color changes throughout the day, so don't fret about it too much!

Hello, Just got home from a nice trip to Arkansas to celebrate George's birthday. I will blog about it tomorrow.

Now--it's time to start working in the yard, cleaning up all of the 'junk' from the ice storm. What a mess!!!

Hope you are doing well. I'm sure you will choose just the perfect color for Plum Cottage... I know it's not easy---but the right one will surface!!! Good Luck.
Hugs,
Betsy

As long as you feel in harmony with the chosen colour that is all that matters!
From another fellow Pisces - as long as it doesn't create any stress!
Hugs to you Lorraine!

Hi Lorraine - painting the house is such a big undertaking. I love all of the color choices actually - but I understand that you want to get it just right! Hope you have a great week. Thanks for always visiting my blog and leaving a nice comment. I am sure glad your rose, and all of your flowers are doing well. I love the pictures of your yard.

Catching up for here at 'Plum' cottage. ;-) I agree...trying to find the perfect shade is probably one of the hardest jobs when it comes to painting. I think you were very smart to paint the many shades to figure out just which one will be the "it" plum for your cottage.

I too wanted to thank you for all your sweet encouragement over the last little while. Your comments mean so much. Much love my friend

Goodness gracious.... I didn't realize how many choices for purple there were! I'm sure whatever you choose will look perfect :)

I'm so sorry to hear about Balisha. I didn't know her, but I know she was a friend of yours. May she rest in peace.

Choosing paint colours is really hard - especially when they are for outside - everything looks different out there! I wish you good luck in finding the colour that is just right "Goldilocks"!

I wish you lots of luck in searching for the right paint color, though I'm sure once you do it will be just right.

Your little caravan is SO adorable!!! Hm, seems I spoke too soon about your paint! haha :) It's a hard choice, isn't it? i hope you find the color you are perfectly pleased with!

I was wondering -- is your little caravan equipped to live in? Does it have a little kitchen/bath? I just wondered if you could rent it out to a lodger, maybe someone you already know who you wouldn't mind having so close, and that would bring in income so you didn't have to work again, or work so much.
