Flowers, new kitchen tool, clean up

Good evening folks ~ I am already feeling like getting horizontal to read for awhile and it’s only 6:41 and I had a two hour nap. I’ll show and tell why at the end of this post.

First I’ll show some of what’s blooming here in Plum Cottage Gardens.

First off is a bougainvillea ~ this plant is usually a more salmon/purply color but right now is pretty orange.

Miss Muffet caladium from a friend, growing in a pot of coccinea salvia, peachy colored flowers and a couple of dried out snail shells.

Last week I was told a pkg. was coming from an online friend.  When I came home from work on Thursday, there it was just inside the locked patio gate off the driveway. I had no idea what it was and was I ever surprised and thrilled when I saw what it was.

A Ninja Master Prep blender. I’ve not had a chance to use it, but I have a small head of cabbage and want to make coleslaw.  I’ll show the results when I make it. I want to make smoothies for breakfast, and I want to try my hand at making peanut butter and lots of other goodies too.

Then, on Sat. which was the 1st National Widows Day, friends of mine brought over a trailer for me to load up with scrap.  That was a blessing. It was a bit rough negotiating the thing into place but it was finally done, with a few smushed plants along the driveway.  These plants are all hardy and spread like crazy so I wasn’t really too concerned.  I was too grateful for this couple’s help.

I’m only posting a couple of pictures right now, will do a post on the project when we’re done.

Smushed plants next to my van.

I worked for 50 minutes yesterday morning after church and loaded this much.  I was getting tired and the sun was overhead and the rest I would need help with.

The female half, of this couple came this morning and we worked for a couple of hours loading the rest in. I am 65, and she’s about to turn 61.  We made a great team and I know Mark would be proud of what we did.

Now I’ll work on loading up this area with more during the next week, then she’ll come again and we’ll load more in and that should be it for now. Smile Forward progress.

This was just one of several projects my dear sweetie and I were working on when he became ill and then left this planet four months later. When I lost him, I lost my momentum and it has taken me awhile to get it back again. One of the last things he told me was, “get rid of the junk, I know you’ll feel better when it’s gone”.  Bless his heart!  I thought of him a lot while loading and cleaning up and I sure do miss him. My heart and mind hold lots of memories throughout our 43 years together.  My love for him continues to grow.

And that’s it for now. I need to take a nice hot shower and then head off to bed.  I’m beat.

I hope you all have a nice week whatever you do, wherever you are.

Don’t forget to count your blessings.

Oh, I know what a load off your mind and your yard to get rid of the junk! Whenever I want to get rid of "stuff", we haul it to the front driveway and put up a sign, "free junk". Believe it or not, it works every time, someone picks it all up!

Omgosh, we have been gathering scrap in the back yard too. My grandson sells it and has a nice bit of extra spending money. We have been trying to clean up the winter clutter. Every time we get a pile it rains then the pups go out and spread it around again. Dang dogs ~lol~

As always, lovely pics of your garden.

Your flower photos are as lovely and inspiring as always. I'm interested that your roses don't seem to suffer attacks by Japanese beetles.
It is good to tackle a big clean-up job--but it is surely exhausting. You've earned that hot shower and early bedtime!

How good your friends are helping you get rid of that scrap stuff, now that is real friendship. Your flowers are colorful, as always a joy to see.

DEar Lorraine,
I can only but imagine your exhaustion, and the feeling of elation tidying all of this up. How wonderful to have the help of such generous and hardworking friends.
Hope you enjoyed your hot shower and have had a really well earned rest!
Loved all the flower pics, as always.
Hugs

Phew!! Sit down, or better still, have a lie down, love those tail gates on the trailer, and that was a huge task, specially for 2 ladies of a certain age. Beautiful flowers, as always, too hard to pick a favourite. Your darling man would be so proud of you. Hugs, Jean.

What a heartwarming post. Oh my, I know you miss your dear husband terribly. I'm sure times like this, working and doing the same things you did together brings back a flood of beautiful memories. Memories are forever, they are a blessing and so wonderful? Thank you for sharing.
Hugs,
Nancy

Your roses are just beautiful, as always!

I haven't seen a single zebra longwing in my garden yet . . .and I had lots of them last year.

That's quite a job you had loading up the scrap metal ~ what an accomplishment. And what a gift to have some help - girl power! :-)

Hope you have a wonderful week.

Love and hugs,

eli

No wonder you needed a nap, that's a lot of work, you ladies did a great job. Can't wait to see what you whip u with that blender, looks really nice and of course I love your flowers, my roses should be blooming soon

That was a lot of work, Rainey! You deserve a rest! Sounds like you have some lovely friends to help you. Collecting scrap metal is a cottage industry around here. If we want to get rid of any scrap, we just have to haul it to the street on the day before garbage day and it's always gone by morning. The local police officer collects scrap and picks it up as he patrols the village. Our village is the best patrolled village on the day before garbage day!

Oh how I would love to take a personal tour of your flower gardens! You have so many lovely species that I've never seen.

Here, the farmer has a huge junk pile and I'm constantly nagging him to start hauling it to the salvage yard. Thankfully it isn't close to the house but I'm embarrassed when someone goes near it. lol

Wow, Lorraine! That's a huge chunk of "junk" gone. Good for you. Now wonder you were tired!

I'm sure Mark is really proud of you Lorraine... not only for the huge efforts you made with your friend to load up the truck with all that heavy, rusty scrap, but for all the bravery and determination you put into everything you do. It must be so very hard for you at times, missing him as you do, but you just get on with your life, and you're a shining example to us all!

What lovely flowers so pretty and vibrant colours. I miss my mum so much, she loved her beautiful garden- I like to think she is close with me when I'm outside in the garden.
Hope you find comfort in your nice garden.

What a lovely post, in spite of the trailer of "junk." So glad you're able to clear out; your hubby is right -- you'll feel better when it's gone. You'll have new areas to dig up and beautify.

"My love for him continues to grow," you said. That is a mind-blowing thought, isn't it? Most people think that death is The End, and love, or marriage, or that connection between spouses, is over and dead. But it's not! Your love for him grows on, and his love for you grows on also! As Jesus promises, Mark is very much ALIVE -- Not dead! -- and living people love and grow and feel as they did before, or more. I think it must be a lovely truth to know that your love with him continues to develop and grow, that your relationship is far from over; it's only beginning :)
