Pain gone ~ wool rug ~ flowers

Hello Friends ~ Thank you for emails, notes and comments hoping my back was better.  The pain lasted for three days and I am so thankful.  It has lasted longer before.  I only took one ibuprophen, I mainly just relaxed and did nothing strenuous.

I have a few flower photos from this morning and one of my Queen Crape which is really filling out nicely.  It makes a lovely shade tree once it is all filled in and then blooms around August/September.

My friend Nanci who owns the shop, with her husband, next to where I work gave me a pot of lovely Silver Lace Fern, in with a hibiscus.  I repotted the hibiscus, and divided up the fern into three pots of it.  I love the fern. She has more of this fern and keeps dividing it.

Now, here’s my find for the week.  I stopped at a couple of yard sales on my way to work this morning. The one place I made a joke to the man about how I’d like to take his gardenia hedge. It was about 6’ long by 3’ deep and maybe 4’ high, squared off and loaded with blooms. I didn’t buy anything there.

Next stop looked more promising and it’s where I found my treasure for $3.  It’s a hand made cross-stitched wool rug. It is 27” by 42”. It just needs a binding around the edge. It was made in 6 sections, then sewn together. It was some kind of kit so said the faded out printing on the back. With the roses, it had FlowerLady’s name all over it. Smile

Right now the timer is about to go off for a (ding) Ricotta Cheese Pound cake.  It sure smells good.  I made it for our ladies small Bible study group tomorrow.  We all bring something to eat and it’s always fun to see what all we have. Last week I took a banana bread with craisins, chocolate chips and sunflower seeds, and didn’t bring any home.  I’m thinking of taking Comstock strawberry pie filling, since I have that in my cupboard, for topping.

I hope you all had a good week and that your weekend is a nice one too.  May you all have a lovely Easter week also.

That Silver Lace Fern looks certainly good! As you, I love ferns, Lorraine. And, when it comes from a friend, it's very special!
I love your find - lovely embroidery!

I am so glad your back is a little better, what a find, yes, your name is right there. My Tibouchina has flowered from before Christmas, and is still doing so. We moved it to a sheltered spot, as when It was small, some heavy frosts nearly finished it off, So for 2 years, covered it with frost cloth all winter, now it is very hardy and healthy. Cheers, Jean.

Love the roses on that rug, it is too pretty for the floor. It would look great framed and hanging on a wall.

I never heard of a Ricotta Cheese Pound cake so I googled it and am going to try the recipe. Sounds really good.

Your flowers are beautiful. I checked out Crape Myrtle, but too bad for me, I am in Northern Indiana and the Crape Myrtle would not survive our brutal winters.

Happy Easter to you too!
Carol

What a lovely "find" - (must have been the week for $3 rugs; we found one too at a church rummage sale)!

Your blooms are beautiful as usual and the news that your back pain has subsided is welcomed news indeed. I was concerned. ♥

Glad to hear that your back feels better!!

Kathleen is one of my very favorite roses. Up here in Virginia, she is almost a once-bloomer ... but with a huge crop of hips in the fall. How does she behave for you?

Lovely little piece. It looks to be woven on a cotton foundation, and should be repairable (the ones woven on jute can tend to crack/split). You cannot beat the price!

I like the rug under the little flower hooked piece - looks like the remains of a beauty.

Came across your blog by accident. If you send a photo of the back of the new rug I can let you know if there are any do-it-yourself suggestions to keep it together.

Gorgeous flower photos. I will be sharing this with my mom. She's a weaver, but she loves flowers as much as rugs. =)

Thank you for sharing,
Lisa Wagner

Glad you are feeling better. I hurt mine right after Christmas, don't push too quickly. I found using a heating pad really helped. Have a wonderful Easter! Kit

Glad to see you are feeling better, FlowerLady. Back pain can be quite debilitating.

What I wouldn't give for a gardenia hedge ~ my all time favorite flower!
Reading about your yard sale finds has actually sparked my interest. I've hit a couple this past month - a lot of fun!

Have a wonderful week.

Rainey, have you ever used Tiger Balm patches or rub for your back? It's wonderful stuff and I've been living on it for a month or so. Last week, I had 3 patches on my back during the day and slept on a heating pad at night and took an 800 mg Ibuprofen; all so I could get out of bed w/little pain. The back is still having mild spasms but nothing I can't live with...if I take it easy -grin.
Your rug is lovely, what a Great find! Your sun room is a beautiful oasis, can just imagine you sitting there reading your Bible. I envy your Bible study; I've tried to invite myself to some but "we aren't taking new people". Can you imagine?!

I love the way you discover these great 'finds' - well done!
Isn't this year flying! Easter is upon us already.
Take care dear girl and have a lovely and calm week.

Love that little rug! It will be adorable with binding, and will warm your feet next winter. I'm so glad you're better. Back pain is so debilitating, and three days is LONG ENOUGH.
