Latest on caravan, revamped path, heat & humidity

Hello Folks ~ I do hope you are all doing well.  Summer is most definitely here. The past few days weren’t too bad, today is bad. There’s a big difference when the humidity is around 50%, than it is today.

This is what it is right now at 10:48 a.m. in s.e. FL. We have a chance of getting some rain this afternoon. We’ll see.

Yesterday morning I worked in the secret garden and trimmed the bougainvillea by my shed.  Not too bad. I got a load of laundry washed and hung out too, which I still need to fold and put away. Smile

I also helped DH get the counter top in place in the caravan.  This morning he’s working on the hinged cover for the stove.  The old one was formica over presswood and had gotten wet and swelled up on one side.  He made a new one and is covering it with the formica as the counter top.

Here’s the counter top before formica was put on.

Here is our ‘curbside shopped’ formica, the little caravan will have a faux granite countertop.

In place yesterday with the original sink set in. You can see the stove hole which is over the gas/electric refrigerator.

Another view. Remember now, this space is 6’x8’.

I cleaned up the stainless steel sink with Bon Ami and a scruffy pad.

This is the path I’ve been working on. The three round pavers were what was the original path.  They had to be bumped over/south when we set up the rain barrel. I wanted to add to it.

I incorporated the two pieces that broke off the bench.

I changed it this morning and still have a little tweaking to do, but not today.

Now, this afternoon I ‘hope’ and am going to ‘try’ to get some things listed in my Etsy shop.  Dear Darla of Designs by Darla G  and a fellow FL gardener, sent me an email nudging me to get off my procrastinating rear, not her words, but mine. I had told her I was going to be uploading some things the other day, but hadn’t done so yet, so I got a reminder which made me laugh.

That’s it for now. I’m hungry so need to get up and make us our lunch.

If you are working outside, don’t over do it, and make sure you drink plenty of water to keep yourselves replenished.

Happy Summer living ~ FlowerLady

Well he did a fantastic job on the counter top. It looks beautiful and so does your path.

Wow, you curb shopped formica? I am so impressed with your luck and skills. I like the path stones and may just have to borrow that idea if I ever come across any round stepping stones.

You found formica on the curbside? Man! You really have some happy hunting grounds! Can't wait to see how it all looks finished. Looks great so far. Love your stepping stones too. And the re-purposed bench edge!

The counter turned out to be great. Your weather has to be unbearable at times. We hit only 88 today with a lot of humidity and it is not possible to be outside for a very long time. We won't cool off very much at night now. Your caravan project looks like a fun project and your stepping stone walk turned out wonderful. Do be careful and don't stay outside too long.

Fantastic find on the formica! That's my kind of path: pieces of urban stone, broken bricks, whatever you have, worked into a mosiac. Can you tuck in a seashell or two?

lovely developments in your counter top, DH is certainly very knowledgeable. We are waiting for all the developments, can we visit sometime? hehe

The little caravan is coming along nicely, soon you will be able to drive off into the sunset in total tiny comfort. Your husband is a whiz with his tools and talent. Also, love the mixture of broken stone and brick in your new walkway, I do that often. It is such a great way to lay a walk and gives it an charming oldtime look.

I see the problem now... you can't list on Etsy from the garden! lol We have had so much rain here lately...doesn't do much for the deficit though...love the brick path...the caravan is coming right along too...now about that Etsy shop....

Oh I love all your projects. I have been wanting a caravan for SO long, I keep telling hubby that we need to get one :)

And I love your walkway.

You know your weather could be mine right here in Arizona...same thing. Early morning, like 6am and it's already 80 degrees LOL

Hope you're having a wonderful week, hugs,
Sandra

The counter top looks good.
I really like your stepping stones with the brick pieces around them. Great combination of the two materials. I don't think I would have considered putting them together.

That counter top looks terrific. Things are really starting to come along inside the caravan now. We know all about high humidity levels here too. It just saps every ounce of energy out of you when the humidity starts getting up around the 80s and 90s. Hard to do any sort of work in those conditions. Well done on the pathway too. It's just brilliant.

I once built a garden path from broken pieces of cement salvaged when a friend's husband tore down a farm silo with a concrete base. I didn't get the walk quite level but it settled in after the first season and with thyme and other plants creeping through the crevaces it became rather attractive.
