Believe

Here it is another sweltering day. Right now we are having a bit of a thunderstorm. I’d love to have more rain, but it’s been mostly flashes and noise. (It started raining more as I was working on this post, and I am thankful.) We haven’t had a good rain in about 4 days now, after getting rain almost every day for a couple of weeks. Earlier today it was 92 and felt like it was 105. I did some work and hung out a load of laundry this morning, and after awhile I told DH I was heading indoors as I couldn’t stand being outside any longer. It is so draining and starts making you feel ill. The humidity is so heavy and you start feeling dragged out.

Now, for the reason of the title. I will be losing my job this year after 13 years, due to the economy. I don’t know how much longer I will be working, and the shop will be closed the month of August as well. So, in my angst I must believe, that all things will work out. My hope is that as one door closes another is opening. For now I will wait and hope in God to give me peace of mind.

*Angst is an English, German, Danish, Norwegian and Dutch word for fear or anxiety (Anguish is its Latinate equivalent, and anxious, anxiety are of similar origin). It is used in English to describe an intense feeling of apprehension, anxiety or inner turmoil.*

After a nap, after the news from my boss, (I knew it was coming, I just didn’t expect it so quickly), I felt like starting on the next needlework piece. So, I got out a bit of material and drew out the beginning design and the word believe.

I don’t know yet what color scheme or anything, but it’s a start.

I then decided to take some pictures of filet crochet pieces that I’ve done and are for sale. I just don’t have them listed yet.

I learned to crochet when I was 15. My mother had just remarried and my step-grannie lived almost behind us. I would visit her and she taught me how to crochet and I’ve been ‘hooked’ ever since.

I want to thank all of you for your kind comments. They do much to boost and encourage spirits. It’s like visiting over the back fence, visiting each other’s blogs, leaving comments, emailing each other in some cases.

I do not know what tomorrow or next week may bring, but I do know who holds all of my tomorrows. He is God, the great Creator of this wonderful universe we live in.

Be thankful, be well, be at peace.

I'm sorry about your losing your job. I know that is tough and depressing at the same time. Hopefully something comes along quickly for you that you will enjoy doing.

I have been there...several times. It is hard on your self esteem and self worth. My job made me, It was my sense of self. When I lost that, I losst myself. It took me a long time, and a even longer time to see that my job was not who I was, it was just a small part of who I was. I told myself everyday that God see's the bigger picture even when I don't. Sometimes things would get really bad, kand I had a hard time believing that....but things always worked out and things eventually did get better. In 3 years, I lost my job, had a series of low paying jobs that were demeaning to me, had to file bankruptcy and was in a BAD marriage. 3 years later, I own my own business, got rid of the worthless husband and 95% of the bankruptcy. I have been to the bottom, and it makes you better person and you appreciate things much more. If God leads you to it, he will lead you through it.

The heat has reached triple digits here today they say. I agree, its just miserable and you can't stay out very long and the weeds are just growing up a storm. I feel your "angst" about your job. Mine, I believe, is just playing out also. A sign of the times, they say. Hopefully in the interval something will happen for the good. You just never know. I'll be thinking about you along the way. Your crochet pieces are just gorgeous. You are so talented!! Debi

Sorry to hear your unsettling news. Your attitude of trust in the Lord even in the face of such news is a great encouragement for me to examine where I am putting my trust. God is faithful.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this...what a shame. I'm praying something wonderful will come to pass for you. It must be such an uncertain time right now and everything must feel almost like a bad dream. I love the new work you are beginning already, 'Believe' is such a potent affirmation.

Thinking of you and sending a hug.

I feel for you but want to welcome you to the club. My hubby is on the job search at the moment as well.We try very hard to stay optimistic and in the mean time we have cut our living expenses back drastically and are going with cash only. Thoughtless spending is a thing of our past and we aren't looking back. Your crochet pieces are stunning! HANG IN THERE!

I too feel for you at this difficult time. But as gardeners each of us has learned the gift of resiliency. Through this scorching early summer, we may loose everything but instantly we plan for next year. I think you will be resilient in your work search. Best of luck to you.

Oh, my, I was not expecting that at all! After 13 years! What a shock. I know times are bad, but still, for every person I know that loses their job (there's been quite a few!), it's still shocking to me. I hope you will find a wonderful new job that you love. Your crocheted pieces are lovely. I could see them framed against some beautiful matting. I'll pray for you to have peace in the coming days.

Oh Flowerday, you must be so upset to be losing something you have loved to do for so long. I want you to remember the old adage, "When a door closes a window opens." I will be thinking of you and sending prayers and good vibes your way. Love you, Kit

I felt a bit smothered reading about the heat and humidity. So much of our nation is under its grips. None of us knows what tomorrow holds. I pray that the Lord opens a few doors for you in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy your crafts and little piece of paradise surrounded by beautiful flowers. Hugs,

Dear Flowerlady, I am soo... sorry to read that you will lose your job. That must be a scary experience. I truly hope that you find a new one soon or another source of income. Times are tough due to the economy being in a slump and I only can hope that things will become better soon.

Chin up woman. All through your blog, even more than your joy of gardening...is your joy of cooking. Go check out some health food /natural stores and grocery stores, and bring them some samples of your breads or cookies--whatever. Let your baked itmes speak ( or taste ), for themselves. Then start selling little packages of home baked good through them. Heat and humidity is killer, 110 heat index here today. You are a sweetie,go sell some bread ! take care, Gina

You are such a creative woman...I hope with all my heart that you can find a way to do what you love and earn some money at the same time. My Grandma sold pies and lunches and raised 6 children. That was years ago, but I think that today we need more of those "old timey homemade items." This may be a blessing in disquise.
Keep the faith...Balisha

I am so sorry about the stresses from losing your job. I hope another door opens quickly and your mind can be at ease.

You work is amazing. I really don't even understand how to take something so thin and make it into a work of art. I know that I would become instantly frustrated!

I hope you are enjoying your week. Naps are good! :)

Dearest Sweet Flowerlady,

I had to scroll down to see what I have missed this past week, and knew I was going to find news that would be hard to read. So sorry to hear about your job...I know how much you enjoyed it, and LOVED the post you did showing us around the shop. I too am a firm believer of closed doors equal another door opening somewhere else. Hold tight to that faith. I too do the same thing at night when my worries keep me awake...pray, sing, or just start listing my blessings. I will be thinking and praying for you during this time. Life is uncertain, but there is certainty in who holds the future.

Oh...just thought of another thought that I heard a couple weeks ago that might encourage you. "We don't need to worry about tomorrow, because God is already there." Beautiful thought.

Please try not to stress, but take this as an opportunity to use your time to do things you didn't have time before. My husband lost his job several times (and we all depend on his income), and things always worked out in the end. They will work out for you too!

Oh dear, I've just caught up with your news. I'm so sorry to hear about this turn of events. Losing your job after so many years is certainly difficult to take, but I do so hope things take a turn for the better very very soon. I know your gardne and craft work will help soothe your soul and I'm sure the support of your family and friends will be of great comfort. I'm sure you know the saying "When one door closes, another opens."
