A Sweet Package and Sweet Rain

Good morning Everyone, Well, it’s morning here anyway.  We had some wonderful rain last night, several heavy downpours which were a blessing for sure.  It wasn’t even predicted.

My package from Sharon Lovejoy arrived yesterday. Besides the book, for being a member of the Girl’s Grimy Hands Club I got a sweet little bag of flower and veggie seeds. The seeds are from Peaceful Valley, organic seeds, fertilizers, and other goodies are on their website.

Here’s what I got:

Flowers – Bird’s Eyes, Indian Blanket, Baby Blue Eyes,

Veggies: Silvia Red Romaine Lettuce, Speckled Swan Gourd, Moon & Stars Watermelon, Rainbow Bell Pepper Mix, Rosa Bianca Eggplant

Fellow Florida gardeners I will need some info as to when to plant the veggie seeds.  I know several of you have veggie gardens.  This year I’ve got some plum tomatoes and bell pepper plants growing, but may be too late to enjoy any harvest from either of them.  I do have my tomatoes caged and screened somewhat from the blazing sun.  They are loaded with flowers right now.

I have some wonderful basil growing from seeds for becoming a member of the Girls Grimy Hands Club some time back.  I made an eggplant dish with Italian sausage, tomato sauce, onion, bell pepper, garlic, some olive oil, dried Italian seasoning and chopped up some fresh basil into the mix for dinner last night.  Delicious!

I could hardly wait to start reading ‘The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating’ and am loving it so far.  It is a delightful read.  I think all of you would enjoy this book.

Thought you would enjoy this next picture of sweet Tork sleeping in my chair in the living room while I was in here at the computer. What a life! She is a sweetiepie.

The next picture is of two small stained glass windows that we’ve had for many, many years now. We are using them in our ‘project’.

I will close this post with a wonderful, thought provoking quote the author used in her sweet book.

***

“Think not of the amount to be accomplished,

the difficulties to be overcome,

or the end to be attained,

but set earnestly at the little task at your elbow,

letting that be sufficient for the day.”

Sir William Osler, physician (1849-1919)

Treasures!!!! Ahhh! Those stain glass windows are definitely a treasure and will look amazing! Sweet little Tork taking a snooze. And, fresh basil is one of my absolute favorites - it's great in everything, makes the house smell wonderful, and is also one of Lola's favorite snacks.
Have a great weekend!!
(blogger isn't allowing me to post using my google account...hmmm!)

Great quote, Flowerlady! Love the shot of Tork at rest. She certainly looks very comfy in that chair. I can't wait to see what this project finally becomes ... lovely little windows! What a wonderful package you received. I'm sure you'll have great success with all your seeds.

Catching up on blogs...and I agree...you cat is a sweetie pie! I adore cats, and was just asking my husband when we can get one. ;-) I think we will take it slowly for now, so many changes, don't need to add a cat to the mix, until things are a bit more settled. I will enjoy yours for now. :-)

I getting anxious to see 'the project'.

That quote is sort of what I adopt when faced with all the work ahead of me in the gardens in early spring. Just attack the first one and don't think about what waits for you.

So glad you got some rain! I have my fingers crossed for us.

How fun to get a gardening package in the mail. Good luck with your seeds. I have 'hit or miss' luck with seeds so won't offer any advice. The quote was just what I needed to read.

Hello Flower Lady, I also live in SE FL.
I have plum (mine are Roma) tomatoes and many different types of peppers and they are all doing well. The Roma tomats are struggling a bit in the soil, but those in pots are loaded with fruit - ditto for peppers. I hope you have a bountiful harvest! When in doubt, just give everything a big dollop of fish emulsion! Works for me :)
