May Blooms

Here we are half way through the month of May already. Time sure seems to zip by the older I get.

Hope you all have had a great week. Between working 4 days and taking care of home, I've been learning Windows 7, using new keyboard, and a card reader for my camera.

This morning I got outside for awhile working under cloudy skies in my main garden. Weeding, trimming, raking and sweeping. Thunder started moving closer and closer so I stopped for the day. We then had a little rain. We had a little last night too. Really nice for us, although we really need a good soaking. More rain is expected today and tomorrow, so we'll see what happens then.

Here are some pictures of what is blooming down here now. Blogger seems to be having more problems so I hope this all works.

The first three pics are of blooms from the 'Incense' passion vine. The scent is sweetly exotic.

This one is starting to open.

Datura bloom, what a nice scent.

Here is a poor raggedy Gulf Fritillary butterfly sipping nectar from Golden Dewdrop (Duranta erecta) blooms.

The next few pictures are of the blooms from the Dwarf White Orchid tree, Bauhinia acuminata.

Last and certainly not least, Penelope rose blooms. Aaahhhh.

Very pretty! I adore passion flowers. So exotic looking. I had a wild one show up last year, but it died from the drought. Maybe I'll get lucky again this year. Loved your butterfly pic.

Your flowers are looking great. The top flower doesn't look like it is a real plant. We have fritillary butterflies up here. The who set of pictures are just marvelous.

I like seeing your plants which are unfamiliar to me--such as the passion vine--what a dramatic flower.
I was interested in your comment that rugosa roses do not do well in FL. I hadn't thought of that, but have been surprised at how many beautiful roses can manage the hot and humid climate there. I would have thought that mildew might be a problem.
Your photos are always a peaceful garden tour.

As always, your flowers look awesome. The passion vine is really cool. I am probably way too far north for it.

The poem is a lovely description of spring; I still remember her poem 'Trees' that we had to learn in school.

The blooms are wonderful. I believe that passion vine flower is the most exotic I have ever seen. My Penelope isn't blooming yet but should soon.

Have a wonderful week.

Looks good, smells good. What a garden! I'll have white Datura blossoms again soon and I spotted TWO night blooming Cereus buds yesterday. Interesting how passiflora attracts attention. I still think of it as a field weed but now I think of it as a butterfly host first.

Your orchid flower tree is so pretty. And, Penelope looks like she must have a wonderful scent to go along with those delicate good looks. Does she? Poor butterfly. We have a few around here that look like something has taken a bite or two out of their wings. They still look beautiful floating through the garden.

Lovely pictures! I'm afraid my passion flower didn't flourish in our erratic English weather. Thanks for all your recent comments. Charlotte

Hi Flowerlady...your white rose is stunning! There's something so simple but beautiful about a white flower...I'm a big fan of them. You've got lots of gorgeous flowers this mid-May and I'm glad you're receiving some much needed rain. We finally got some this past weekend. Enjoy your pretty flowers!
