One, One, Eleven

Good evening Folks ~ I hope you had a lovely first day of this new year.

I dismantled Christmas today as I had to work Wed-Fri last week, and I also roasted another turkey, since they had Butterball's on sale this past week at 89 cents a lb. I told DH I don't want to look at another turkey until next Thanksgiving. It's too much work, especially, getting the meat off the turkey, pkging it up on a full belly. :-) I do have the carcass in the crockpot with water and it will cook all night for some savory broth to use later.

It feels so good to have our space being back to normal. It seems larger now that the Christmas decorations are back in the attic. It's always a little sad taking all that sparkle and color, and memories down, but it feels good too because it is the start of a new year.

It was warm yesterday up near 80 and today was more of the same, gorgeous winter weather.

More roses were in bloom today, so I took more pictures and I'm sure you won't mind seeing them.

I look forward to getting back into the swing of gardening, although won't be getting much done this coming week as I will be working Tues-Sat, but I'm not complaining. I'm thankful work has picked up a bit, and hope it continues to do so.

"The shortest day has passed,

and whatever nastiness of weather we may look forward to

in January and February,

at least we notice that the days are getting longer.

Minute by minute they lengthen out.

It takes some weeks before

we become aware of the change.

It is imperceptible even as the growth of a child,

as you watch it day by day,

until the moment comes when with a start of delighted surprise

we realize that we can stay out of doors in a twilight

lasting for another quarter of a precious hour."

Oh, how I can't wait for late-day garden walks again! Your roses are beautiful, as usual.

Just gorgeous. Nothing beats the beauty and fragrance of a rose.

I was thinking the same thing today as I
took down all of our Christmas decorations.
The living room seems so much larger now
that the tree is down. I enjoy Christmas
and all the decor so much but there's
something about starting the new year
with a fresh clean house.
Hope your Sunday is relaxing and you have
a good work week.
Happy New Year in Christ!

Wishing you a Happy New Year, FlowerLady and DH.
I don't mind the roses at all, so beautiful. I need a shot of color to ease the cold we are getting here. -5 below with a windchill of -15 below, just plain cold....
Take care

Our Christmas decorations came down today. We like to enjoy the Christmas tree on New Year's Eve as we usually just enjoy each other's company going into the new year. The living room is large now without the tree. It's sad the glitter is gone but I like the clean fresh start too.

Happy New Year. I so enjoy seeing your flowers in the middle of winter. We were in the low sixties here today...such a nice change from our cold December temperatures. Carla

I loved seeing your roses! So pretty! I packed up Christmas a few days ago, I always feel a little sad too. I'm looking forward to seeing the garden get ready for spring. I'm surprised that even with our current freezing weather that there are lots of leaf buds forming.
Happy New Year!

Your lovely roses are a sight to behold and what a great way to start of the new year. Wishing you much joy, good health and luck!

I can already tell the days are getting longer. Subtle, but significant! Counting days!

Your comment on my blog -- I've not tried the Joe Pye from seeds, but I did scatter those from my plant. My 'Little Joe' is a hybrid, so if the seeds germinate, they will probably be the native, tall variety and not this shorter one.

Happy New Year!

What a delight to see those roses!

We have yet to take down the decorations but I think I will rest and regroup today and do that tomorrow.

I enjoy the holidays but I love getting everything back to normal and I may not cook for a month! Oh, oh, this is bread making day (not work I love that).

I hope 2011 will be a super one for you both.

I will think of you basking in that 80° weather while were are freezing on a windy 19° day!

Oh, I wish I could say I have the decorations all tucked away for another year, but we still have company coming. Hopefully this week I'll get at it. Oh, you have 80 degree temps...wow, we're down well below zero again. I went cross-country skiing yesterday afternoon. What a difference a few hundred miles make! Love your roses, thank you for sharing them with color-challenged me.

You have amazing roses! I'm not sure I have it in me to put that kind of effort in at this point in my life. I remember my mom's beautiful roses. They are grown in big pots and then stored in the basement, dormant, for winter. I have a hensa rose that survives the cold, but the fancier breeds wouldn't. I'll just enjoy yours!! :) Happy New Year!

Christmas passed in such a haze for us here that we're leaving the decorations up another week or so. The lights stay up year-round, though, so it's not such a huge difference. :) I'm glad your new year started off well. That's beautiful weather.

The Prosperity rose is lovely too. I love white roses. :)

It is always a mixed bag of feeling when we put away the festive decorations again. But I take the opportunity to change up the decor a little so things look different at the same time.
Your roses are just so beautiful. How lucky are you to have them blooming for so long.
Have a wonderful week.

Beautiful roses - I have Penelope too. I am enjoying going outside after tea as I am in full on mulching mode at my place. The problem is, that I am so exhausted, as I'm getting up early too. These holidays are wearing me out.

Your roses are so beautiful! I planted my first 4 last season at this new(er) house and they haven't done well at all. I hope this year brings better blooms!

Thanks so much for stopping by the new blog too!
