The Cost Of Speech

Here is something DH read today, and this really has my ire up. If this happens all over the country dear friends, we will all be losers. I can't afford to pay this, neither can thousands of others. Free speech is becoming a thing of the past. I am thankful today, this very minute for all the blogging friends I've made here, for tips, ideas, etc. given freely by so many. Let's enjoy our freedoms while we may.

"Blogging is not a privilege to be trifled with by grasping city officials, but a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Speech is free — and not to be priced by government."

Wow, F.L.! This is scandelous! I am posting this to my facebook page, where there are lots of garden-bloggers, many trying to make a 'profit' in one way or another. This is disturbing.

This from the city of brotherly love? I don't see that their new law is enforceable, but it smacks of Big Brother at it's worst. I hope they backpedal quickly and take that one off the books. It's both ridiculous and incendiary.

I heard about this on the news. They said it was a sliding fee scale, and that only those who made profits from their blogs would be taxed. The information in that article is a little different.

Those are excellent points about bloggers not even using city services, so why should they be taxed?
