Fresh peach pie for a summer day

I visited a blog the other day and the lady had posted a recipe for a Cream Peach Pie that reminded her of the pies her mother had made during the summer, using a recipe that had been her mothers. Recipe can be found here at Katie's Kitchen Garden.

That got me to thinking about making a peach pie, haven't made one in years. I used half n half instead of cream and added 1/4 tsp. each of allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon. It smelled delicious while baking and it is now cooling. I'll let you know what we think about it later.

I got out and mowed this morning, plus did a little trimming of stuff hanging over the fence into our driveway from the neighbors to the east of us. That wore me out.

I had the sprinkler going in the main garden as it is one of my days to water, and when I went to move the sprinkler to the next spot, I noticed the pump sounded different and there was no water coming out of the hose. I told DH and he came out to look at the pump and there was zero pressure. We've had some sand coming up from the well lately too, and had a feeling things weren't so good underground. We've had this well about 23 years.

So, DH headed off to get some info, and was told the bad news, our well has croaked, it's dead. Besides the well, we'll need a new pump. This is not what we wanted to hear. We'll call around to see what the going rate is, but we're not looking forward to this expense right now. I use our well for gardening. I'll use city water, which we have to pay for, and hope it won't be too bad. Since I've not done this, I don't have a clue. I only am allowed two days a week to water with the sprinklers, and I hand water when things need it. What a bummer! Another bump in the road of our life.

We need some rain, a good soaking rain. No rain in the forecast today, maybe tomorrow afternoon, if we're lucky. Right now it is 92, but with the humidity, it feels like it's 106.

How often it is that a garden,
beautiful though it be,
will seem sad and dreary
and lacking in one of its most gracious features,
if it has no water.

Sorry to hear about your well troubles. Those are such scary expenses. The pie looks wonderful. I love to bake and haven't all summer...and doubt I will until the snow falls. I try to be outside as much as possible. I hope you get a good rain like you need.

How awful about the well! I am so sorry about that. We are on well for everything. Our bump is the tractor needs to go back in the shop for a new hydraulic pump!

Please tell us how the pie turned out. I think I have enough ripe peaches to give it a try. The recipe sounds very good. I don't see how it could fail.

So sorry to hear about your well. Hopefully, it won't cost you an arm and a leg for a new one. I know Meems over at Hoe & Shovel had to get one recently. Your peach pie looks yummy. Can't wait to hear how it tastes.

I'm sorry to hear about your well, especially with the economy being the way it is and prices the way they are. We just had to get a valve on the well fixed and that wasn't cheap.

Sending wishes for a good soaking rain your way!

Things going wrong with wells and pumps are always bad news--never a good time for it to happen.
I like to make pies--with only two of us [and no teenage grandson next door, now] I have to be acreful that food doesn't go to waste. Learning to cook for two is a challenge.

I love hearing about your life in Florida with both it's ups and downs. In so many ways it is different and the same as my life here in the desert. I hope the expense for the new pump is not too great.

We are in our humid season and humidity creeps up to 40%, which is humid for us desert dwellers ;-)

Sorry about your well. Not a good time to loose the well with this heat in the air. We are stifling here in GA and I can only assume it is worse in your neck of the woods. The pie must have been a good reward after all that weed pulling…

I'm sorry about your well. That is not a cheap fix either. This heat will really do a job on the grass and plants too without any water. We just never know what a day will bring do we? But we do know the ONE who holds that day!! That makes all the difference!

Sorry about your well/pump. Makes me wonder how old OURS is... So far, so good. We got OUR rain and it was cooler yesterday. I turned off the A.C. and opened windows. Our humidifier is STILL filling up frequently, however.

How was the pie? It surely looks good :)

So sorry to hear about your well issues. Hope watering with city water won't be too costly for you. I will pray you get a really good rain. Do you have rain barrels? I love mine and just half an inch of rain fills two of them. Sometimes I put out extra buckets and just catch rain in them. Your pie looks soooo yummy. Enjoy!
