A June Monday morning

Good morning everyone ~ I hope you all had a nice weekend, and if you didn't, I hope it wasn't more than you could bear, and may today be better than yesterday.

Last night we had some awful THUNDER. It was weird too and came in spurts. Not our usual thunder. Thankfully it didn't last long.

The heat has been absolutely horrible here. Yesterday morning though, wasn't as bad as it had been, so I worked on trimming the driveway overhang from neighbor property, and mowed. That was it, I couldn't do anymore. Today's temp is supposed to reach 90 but with the humidity feel like it's 107. I DREAD it. The heat and humidity really bother us the older we get. I don't see how people can say they love the heat, they must be totally crazy. It makes us feel ill. We plan on going out early to run a few errands, and get back home before it gets really bad out. Oh yea, the a.c. in my little Mazda wagon isn't working right either. :-(

These next few pictures are of my pencil orchids, Vanda teres, Miss Joaquim, not sure which name as it looks like it could be a couple of different ones. These are blooming all over the place. I am moving more into our screened room as it will give it a more tropical feel and more color. Some that are in there are already blooming. This is such an easy orchid for me.
Info can be found at Tropical Exotica.

Here we have a spunky squirrel,
waiting to play with another friend, or maybe mate.

The morning sunlight back lighting this shell caught my eye.

Freshly mown driveway and one of my pink crepes in bloom.
The rains we had last night have made the branches hang down.

Here are two more pictures taken just before dark the other night. The blooms are already fading and falling from these magnificent trees all over the county. Pretty soon the trees will be just green, shady canopies.

That's it for this morning.
Try to keep cool,
and try not to do
too much work outdoors if you can help it.

And pleasant scents the noses."

Your garden looks great. Don't you just love a freshly mown lawn? I'm headed to do mine.

We are also experiencing awful heat too. Today the heat index is suppose to be 105-110 with a temp of 95 or higer in some areas. I will not be in the gardens till the weather changes. I purchased some plants Sat and haven't put them in the ground yet. I have to get these 7 plants in the ground and then the weeds will have a field day. Stay cool.

Stunning orchid. Love the colors. Gorgeous how the shell looks with the sun behind it.

You scared me with that heading;
I thought I had lost a day!

You have a great eye for pictures. The shell is particularly lovely.
Orchids are one of those plants I can admire here in your garden, but not in mine.

We are having a cool day here!

You are so right about the heat this past weekend! I did some gardening work in both evenings (after the sunset), and still was sweating so badly!

I never saw this kind of Orchid before. It is very lovely, and obviously it is a rare kind. How lucky you have this in your garden! Is this growing by exposing the roots directly in the air like other Vanda orchids?

Your vanda is very pretty. I don't have one of those but would love to. Great idea to bring it indoors where you can enjoy them. Stay cool!

Your orchids are lovely and I love the sun lit seashell. I am hibernating inside as well from the heat. In southeast Asia, I had to deal with high heat and humidity and this Phoenix resident almost died (figuratively) from the combination. I felt so wimpy ;-)

I wish I could send you a little of our coolness your way - the highest it got here in my part of Scotland today was 59F. It certainly must be rough on those blooms aswell when it gets as warm as that. Your garden looks lovely despite the heat and humdity - you must have to be well organised with mulching in the garden as it must be tough trying to weed in conditions like that.

I love vanda orchids - yours are so beautiful. They are so expensive here to buy.

Gorgeous orchids! Love the lighting in that shell! Those poincianas are so beautiful even after the blooms drop. They look like a ginormous fern tree.

I love your drive way. Such a gentle path into your oasis. Such a beautiful corner of the earth you have.

Your fresh mown driveway looks so inviting. I just want to go in and see the rest of your lovely gardens. The beauty of the royal poinciana blooms may be just about over but you've captured it in pictures. I thank you for sharing; it's been enjoyable viewing.

I am trying not to think about the heat.

There's a nightlight in my bathroom with a shell similar to that pink one as the shield. It was the thing that some visiting children who lived far from the beach remarked most about.

FL, your garden is stunning, as always! I really like the shell, too. I enjoy being surprised like this...it's part of the fun!
Yes, it's really hot! We went out on the boat fishing this weekend, and even on the water with the breeze, it was pretty nasty.

The orchid and the seashells are gorgeous.

I too hate the heat and humidity. We don't get it as bad as you do (for example we do get breaks), but in one's memory the heat seems to last every day of summer!

Thank you for the reminder that things can always be worse. We've had record rainfall this year which is much easier for me to tolerate than record heat and humidity.

Despite the weather, your garden looks lovely.

All so beautiful. My inside orchid is sprouting new stems. My first orchid to even live. Yours are so great.
