Depressing

I have lost two roses in the past week or so, Crepsucule and Souvenir d'Elise Vardon. I feel like crying every time I think about these losses. I think it was because of stress from drought conditions the past few years, they were in pots, and the past week or so, I've not been up on handwatering them like I should have been. They were both so wonderful and I loved their beauty and scents.

The heat and humidity have been horrible this past week, with almost record highs for this time of year, in the high 80's feeling like it's in the high 90's because of the humidity. It is frustrating working out in this kind of weather. We are so 'ready' for cooler weather. I mean, this is October already. We had 2 or 3 really nice days the week before and we thought, yes, it's about time, then we got whammed with this late blast of summer weather, and we are hoping it's the last blast. The weather is supposed to stay like this for a couple more weeks. UGH!

Alas though, all is not lost. Today is a new day, a new beginning. I have much to be thankful to God for. Life is precious and none of us knows how much time we have left. Letting things get us down takes away from the joyous moments that we are blessed with each day. I still have other roses, we have our little cottage, we have clothing and food, we have love.

I wish all of you a wonderful day today and a great week. Look for the good, the beautiful and meaningful in each day. Let the negative stuff roll off, straighten your shoulders, hold your head high, smile, and be thankful. Get out and do something creative, relaxing, meditative or fun.

I get so disappointed when something that should grow so much on it's own and it still just fails. I lost a collection of iris because of too wet of season. I couldn't stop any of it from happening. Take heart that you don't have control of all the conditions down there and you do live in a state with extremes.

It is depressing to lose such beautiful roses, and to have hot weather in August. But cooler weather will come again! :)

Ah, bummer. I am sorry you lost your roses. It must make it all the more unpleasant because of the stupid weather playing its part in their demise. Knowing you however, you will find new and beautiful roses to take their places and be grateful for the time you had with the others. Chin up my friend. There is a wonderful new plant out there looking for a happy new home.

Hi FlowerLady,
I'm sorry about the loss of your 2 roses. I can't empathize with your heat problems right now, though, as it is currently 38 degrees at 1:41 p.m. central time. I am grieving the end of the season. As I pulled into the driveway after church, I looked over at my garden across the street, and was unprepared to see the devastation the freeze caused.

I like what you said about straightening our shoulders, smiling, and being thankful. Yes, we do have much to be thankful for.

Hello FlowerLady,

I just love your attitude. I know that most of us have our favorite plants in the garden and feel their losses more then our other plants. I am looking forward to seeing what you replace them with.

I hope your weather cools down soon - and it will :-)

Good morning Folks ~ thank you all for your kind and encouraging comments.

Sunday I enjoyed working in our front patio area, working off the depression of losing those two roses. I felt better after working outside, which wasn't as bad temperature wise as it had been, plus we had a breeze, and where I was working still had some shade.

Our weather is expected to cool down somewhat in the next week or so and we are so ready for that.

The economy being the way it is, I'm not buying any new plants. I'm growing from seeds and cuttings. It is a real bummer when we lose plants we enjoy, but it's all part of life. Planting seeds and watching them sprout and grow is exciting. Taking cuttings and seeing them root and take off is wonderful too.

Thanks again for stopping by to read and leave your comments. It is all greatly appreciated.
